Can somebody give me a confirmation on the height of the M305 front sight. I have 1.263" from the center of the bore to the top of the blade.

Explain how to measure that, and I may be able to help. Top of sight to center of bore????

I just need to get an idea of the typical height of the Norc M14 front sight from the center of the bore for reference just so I can confirm that the ones I have here are typical. If you like I can just work with the outer diameter of the ring behind the sight post and the height from the top of that ring to the top of the sight. :D

Front sight system specifically for chopped barrels.

Right now I just need some people to confirm the height of their factory front sights so I can get final dimensions done and get this thing on the machines. :D I just need some general measurements, nothing huge.
 
Hello superthepeg.Do you have the measurements from Kuhnhausens book? His measurement from centre of flashider to base of the front sight dovetail is .515 its on page 280. When I just did my norc on taken off a shortened barrel it was 1.138 from centre of the flashider to the top of the sight.Dia of flashider was .739 at the barrel end divide by 2 equals .3695 plus .769 from top of sight to the top of flash eliminator on the barrel end. Total came to 1.1385 if I did my math right. Don't forget there are different size front sights out there as well.
 
Hi just did one of the aftermarket GLFS and came up with 1.2435 from centre of the barrel.Did you talk to Laz at all about this?He's a fountain of knowledge and a nice guy as well. So you'll see how things stack up once you get some other findings.
 
Yep Laz has been very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to take some measurements for me. Hopefully I'll have something in the next month to show here.

The main issue with GLFS is that you disturb your zero every time you clean the gas system. IMHO the gas system is an area that is better left to its own devices that way you can deal with it without worrying about zero.

This system will not be a GLFS, will allow you to properly clean your gas system, have a smaller front sight post then the factory sights and likely be cheaper then the one posted.
