I'm hoping someone here can help me out before tomorrow (range day!)

Just got finished installing a BC tactical magazine release and bolt release, when this thing fell out. I know where it came from, but I cannot figure out what it's for or what was holding it in in the first place. It just seemed to be loose, and drop out. Slightly gouged/scratched on one side. Little help?

Thanks

EDIT: Resolved, the right way or otherwise - see post #7

That's definitely the right place for it - It came out of a hole in the bottom of the receiver immediately ahead of the trigger guard and behind the pin that holds the mag release, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get it back in securely. It just sits loose in that hole.

The cross pin protrudes slightly into that hole, and when it's driven part way out, there's enough contact to hold this part in. But as soon as the cross pin is driven back to where it should be, this thing becomes loose again and falls out. I'd say this part was defective in some way, except that it should have fallen out long ago were that the case.

Wait let me say this. Mine came with it pushed into the bottom. It does not like to stay there, so I put it in from the top and have had no problems.

Haha, I'd thought of that - was definitely pushed in from below on mine as well. If it doesn't seem to do anything I'd just as soon leave it out than drop it into the top (seems like the bolt could catch it if it were to be fired upside down, or something. Just guessing here). That said, if it really is needed to retain that pin... Edit: Just dropping the bolt a few times, the cross pin started migrating. This retainer is definitely necessary on my gun.

Could it need to be bent (spread) open a bit so the little latch on the end will engage and lock it in?

Edit: That's what I did: I inserted a smallish screw driver into the gap between the two prongs and tapped it in to slightly spread/bend them so that the pin now snaps into place. I have a theory as to why it didn't fit properly in the first place, but it doesn't explain why it never fell out before today, unless it was just coated in enough oil/grease to stick in there. At any rate, I think I'm good to go! I'll hit the range tomorrow, and if my hand comes off or something I'll be sure to let everyone know.

Thanks for the video, Innercity. Definitely came out of the bottom on my rifle, but I guess considering the nature of the part (retaining that cross pin) it probably doesn't matter as long as it's there. The part I had did not snap in from either direction until I spread it open, but it was installed from the bottom from the store/factory. The minor damage to the part may be a result of my tapping the retaining pin out without realising that locking device was there, and not removing it first. It's not shown in any parts diagram I've seen for the rifle.

As a follow-up, the rifle performed pretty well when I took it out, so I guess I got that bit right. Now I just have to figure out where this bruising cheek slap is coming from...

Will give that a try next time I have it out. If it makes a difference, it's got the spring-loaded fab defense stock.
