Hey guys.

I'm excited to announce I've ordered my first pistol. I put an order in on a Sig P229R in .40 calibre. I went with this as my choice due to the fact I've been shooting it for about five years and decided I wanted my own.

The Sig aside, I was really hoping to get a Glock as well. I've fired a few different models before, and liked them all. I was leaning towards a G17 or G22. Would it be dumb to get two .40's? Would it be wiser to go with the G17 so I can mix my collection up a bit?

Any feedback or opinions would be greatly appreciated! :dancingbanana:

If you reload, then two pistols in the same caliber is not a bad idea. If you do not reload, it is nice having a 9mm since the ammo is cheaper in general.

Welcome to the world of Sig

Glad to hear you bought a P229. I've had one in.40 for about a year now and i am real glad that its in my collection.
As to you buying another .40 all I can say is that i'll bet you can't stop at owning one sig.:D
enjoy

Depends on what you want/what you want to do.

I have 2 40s, so far. Maybe 6 9mms.

My attitude is you can't have too many guns.

One thing to keep in the back of your mind is the reputation that the Glock 22 has for the unsupported barrell. With reloads it CAN have a kaboom as it is called.

Could destroy you gun and cause you some cuts on your hands.

I agree. You can never have too many.

I just bit the bullet and went with the G22. So I'll have both the P229 and the G22 in .40 since it's the caliber I received all my instruction on. Down the road I'm sure I'll pick up something in 9mm to add to the collection.

So with the G22 and the barrel issue... I'm assuming if I'm running store bought ammo I shouldn't be too concerned? This only occurs with reloads correct?

I don't understand why someone would want two guns of the same calibres. What a waste. If the first gun was a good one, stick with it. It you want another gun, try another calibre. Versatility.

Going from shooting a Sig to shooting the glock would be like getting out of a Ferrari F430 and jumping into a Ford Taurus.

The only glock worth owning is the G20/29 in 10mm. Go big or go home.

Yeah... When I was trained I started with the P229 .40... That's what I'm best with because it's what I learned on. It will always be my fav. If the G17 or G22 is a Ford Taurus... That's okay. Lots of people drive beater cars when they don't want to take out the Ferrari lol... jk

Someone more knowledgeable than me should be along to explain the G 22 thing and the Kabooms.

Not a huge fan of Glocks, but I own 1. G17. Plan on buying a G20 (10mm) when I can.

Own 1 Sig. 226 in 40. Would love to pick up a prohib 228 or 229 or 230.

After some time, you tend to double up and calibers anyways. Go fourth and buy more, Grasshoppa.

For handguns I shoot .22lr, 9mm, .357 Magnum and .45 ACP. I have at least 3 different ones for each calibre.....y'know ya gotta have a 'backup for the backup'....

FWIW, if you really want a G22 then buy it. If you can't decide whether you want another .40 then buy the G17 and buy the G22 later. IMHO, one can't have enough guns......:D :p

Many people that do any competitive shooting sports often have multiple guns in a single caliber. In case one breaks during competition you can just finish with the other... Although many have the exact same gun, Twins so to speak. I think its a good idea.. you can never have too many guns!!!! They are marvels of engineering!

How hard is it to come by 10mm ammunition? Is it significantly more expensive than .40? I'd really like to get out and try it sometime. I'm wondering how I could handle it. I'm used to handling .40, but I imagine 10mm is got a lot more punch.

It's not about the cartridge or the calibre. It's about the pistol/firearm.
"...significantly more expensive than .40?..." Wholesale Sports lists Remington UMC 10mm ammo at $31.99 per 50. CCI Blazer .40 S&W for $16.99 per 50.
