Need someone who knows ATV's! Are Arctic Cat DVX 250's any good?

in my personal opinion.. Stay away from arctic cat , Polaris and Yamaha in the smaller cc's. Most 250cc and lower are made in tiwan or china as per manufactures spec. The bigger ones are made by the big brand names. But im sorry but I have worked on may cats and I don't like their quality lately.

I have a 2009 Suzuki king quad 750 and a 2007 Artic Cat TBX 650 H1 i love them both the kitty cat is a work horse and has a box like a pickup truck that dumps on the back its not as fast as the Suzuki but man will it go anywhere i've only had it for a little over a month now i got it off an old Farmer who used it for taking fire wood to his cabin I paid 2800.00 for it and the only thing I had done to it was new battery new brakes had the valves adjusted and a cv seal replaced.

I'd avoid it, your a big fella and should be looking at a bigger machine. I think you'll kill it, those machines are not that great to start with.

Oh I have my big boy toys already, but for 1000 dollars it seemed okay, I just know nothing of arctic cat or its products, I have always ridden bikes, either way, she is gone now :D

Thanks for the input though , I appreciate it. Cheers and be safe.

Those 250's are made for teenage kids.

This. It's a cheap beginners quad, not designed for larger adults.

Answer this question honestly, what exactly are you going to do with it (light trail use, farm chores, pulling implements, snowplowing) and what are your expectations?

I know a lot of older people who still lean towards these smaller bikes, as those same engine sizes were available way back when, and they made for good, solid, reliable little trikes/quads, but make no mistake, the small displacement stuff is no where even close to the quality of the earlier stuff.

I too fell for the cheap and little trap a couple times. I tried to justify it being cheap and just using for light rides through easy trails, but after 6 months with each, both were pretty much destroyed (bushings wore out, bearings shot, electrical issues, cables broke/eroded, bulbs burnt out, plastics cracked), and I didnt abuse them other than Snow plowing. I did get parts, and managed to keep them going awhile, but constantly having failures on the trail was a real pain. I finally upgraded to a good brand name quad (Yamaha Kodak 450), and it was 10x the bike the cheaper ones were, only requiring fuel and an oil change since new, and it's been used hard and put away wet on a few occasions.

I rode a 2WD 250 Polaris 2 cycle into camp a couple of years. It got me there and back, but it was transportation only, you couldn't really haul anything on it, or with it, with all the hills we have to climb. I'm 200lbs, and with my gear on the bike would be probably 260 or so. It was fast on the flats, but gutless elsewhere. I currently use a 350Yamaha Big Bear, no issues at all. Smallest bike in camp is a 300Honda. Believe it or not, that bike has hauled out moose.

If I could go back in time. I wish I never sold my polaris 500. (2001ish) it was the best ATV I ever owned. The wife could ride it with no problems. It never let me down. My next ATV (I have a grizzly right now) will be either a mid sized Honda or another polaris 500

we have 6 atvs on the farm from 250 to 1000 cc ,but for a quick rip I jump on moms 250 polaris hawkeye ,it is 4x4 and it will haul my 245 lbs ass all over the farm with no problem .it is a auto shift with plenty of power for trail riding and uses fuel like a sippy cup ,it is small and gets in and out of all the tight spots ,I have pulled a little wagon with a deer in it with no problem .the Honda 450 fourman is still the best atv on the farm as far as reliability goes ..if you want a bike that will last and just keep om ticking look at a Honda foreman .Dutch

Iv had my Yamaha grizzly 700 for a year now and ride it like i stole it. No problems at all. I would not hesitate to buy another.

I pound the hell out of my 2012 grizzly 550, snow plowing, moose dragging , firewood trailer hauling, hunting, playing ect
would buy another one in a heartbeat

I loved my grizzly! I upgraded to a side by side because of kids and dogs always wanting rides. I'd buy another grizzly, great atv.
