Need SVT-40 info STAT!

thank you j-p! I will post pictures of the marking, but i have hard time with my camera. I will buy some white pencil so they could appear. My svt was bought from trade ex, so i wonder how many have that kind of marking.
 
I was able to take some pictures of the markings without the pencil... From what i have read about u.n. markings, they usually put the country of origin, year of export and lot number (like jp said, it is probably germany DE for deutschland, 09 for the export year and UA probably for lot number??? I guess all new tradeex svt has this.

DE09 would be the UN markings. My other SVT rifles don't have this. Also it makes sense, as already mentioned Germany is Deutchland and 09 for the year.

Which makes me wonder about the history. I'm guessing most likely East German surplus from after the war? Would be cool if it was West German and captured rifles. If that were the case some (the ones that had to be sent to a German Armory for work) would have the Eagle proof marking. I doubt this second one would be the case, but still would be interesting.

By the way these rifles are addictive. I can't get over how slick the action is. Now we just need a good supply of 7.62x54r
 
mine has the same colour handle as the photos above. is this the "plumb" whats the story behind this compared to other with the metalic look?
 
It must be West Germany or Germany as DE was never used for East Germany. Maybe capture markings from Afghanistan?

You can look up the particulars but they have NOTHING to do with Afghanistan and they're not vintage (ie. not EAST German).

At leas they're not as ugly as the Century International import marks on alot of other Russian stuff.

Got my Trade Ex SVt40 today. No repairs to the stock, and stock is original matched to the receiver. Bolt, carrier and trigger group are electro-penciled. It is a 1942 Tula. Looks quite a bit different that my buddies SVT40 though. Mine has a 2 chamber compensator, a cutout on the right side of the stock at the trigger guard, directly opposite the cutout on the left side for the selector to be in fire position. It also has a big A stamped on the stock and little A stamped on the right side of the receiver and the rear sling swivel is not there. Instead, it has a opening like a mosin nagant for the stock to pass through with brass reinforcing around it. No scope rails either. Kind of an odd duck.
 
Hey Dar 701, a stock with an A on it and the right cutout denote an old avt 40 replacement stock. They are also thicker than normal svt 40 stock. Also, the opening like a mosin nagant on stock denote a naval infantry stock. Both a avt and naval are quite rare, but i use to have one that i sold because it was unreliable compared to my other svt. Great find anyway!

Also, the stock is probably not an original because it is a avt stock. Probably refurbished

Stock looks original, there are no ###X serial numbers and no evidence of any sanding to remove original numbers. It also has the correct Tula 1942 stamp to match the receiver and the A stamp on the stock also matches the one on the right side of the receiver. I will post some pics tonight when I get the camera up and running. Bore could use a good scrubbing and the rifling looks a bit rounded, so it has seen a good amount of use. AVT-40 was the select fire version of the SVT40? That thing must have been a handful to control in FA!

As long as it sends lead down range in a semi auto fashion I'm cool with any markings....thats just me though!

I'm a lover of history, so anything that has changed the rifle in a permanent way is terrible. You have a SVT-40 that is full of history, even with the refurb process, and some asshat has stamped DE09 on it. Awesome.

My SVT-40 is unmarked so I know it won't be going all Adam Lambert on any other SVT-40's any time soon.

I agree with you 95%. I would never dream of changing this rifle in a permanent way ie drilling, tapping, mod stocks, cut barrel anything near that... but i think of the DE09 stamp as part of the history of the rifle.
 
I just ordered another SVT40 a couple of days ago from Trade Ex so it will be interesting to see what I get as I purchased a 42 with no scope rails this spring from Moving Target and it did not have the import markings listed in the previous posts. I love the gun and put a 100 rounds through it this year with no problems at all.
