After I cut off the fake muzzle break on my Norc, my point of impact raised dramatically (no idea why??) but I've got the rear sight at its LOWEST setting and I'm still hitting about six inches high at 60 odd meters. It would appear that having a taller front sight would help, but how do I do that? I could build it up with some quick steel stuff and then file it back.....any help appreciated but it looks like my only option is to scope it.

Springfield Armory Inc, Bush Rifle Front sight. Same as original but taller. Made for 18" barrels.
You may have to call them to order.

I didn't notice you were in NZ.
You might have to go with your plan of using a steel epoxy and custom sizing/shaping :(

Possible easy solutions if you have access to norc parts are:

1) try to find a taller front sight, they do exist
2) try to find a rear sight with the aperture drilled offset low, once again they do exist

If this doesn't work and your sight is disassemblable, you can grind the front end and lower surface of the rear sight. This will allow the sight to move further foreward and thus lower. Care must be taken not to grind the lower surface too much, you want to leave some of the flat at the end of the gear. This is what stops the elevation pinion and prevents the sight from winding right out.

My shorty was shooting 6 MOA high at 100M and this worked for me.
