Hey all...I have scoured google for information and although there is lots there..I am still having a hard time finding out some details.
My desire is to build my next rifle in .284 win. I shoot long range so I want to use the 180's and want to also take it hunting for certain applications. I have no experience with Tikka T3 actions other than over the counter handling. But I have a growing desire to build this with this action as it just has so many positives and such smooth action. But I am running into the same roadblocks that I have with my Savage rifles. Stocks/Chassis etc! The bonus for the Tikka is the long action and flexible magazine lengths for the longer than short caliber I am choosing. In a perfect world I would also like to be able to change my own barrels like I have done with my Savage. I know they make the Remage barrels for Rem 700 so wondering if this could be done for the Tikka as well.
So here is where I could use some general help...
Stocks..my preferences are the Manners T4A (possibly McMillan too), and would also like to be able to try the AICS finally!!!! (was suppose to happen for Savage but never did). So the question here is ..is this possible with the Tikka T3 action for long caliber magazines and if so where do you guys source these from? Already looked at the KRG and they can't do it for the Tikka T3 and long action mags. I have seen some pics of the Tikka in an AICS..can anyone confirm this?
Barrels.. as mentioned, I would love the ability to have pre-fit barrels so I can swap or install them myself. I also shoot 6.5 CM so would like to add this to it also. Anyone doing this with their Tikka?? Also if you could share great source for barrels.
Gunsmith..I live in the lower mainland and could use input on who might be the go to guy for this kind of stuff.
I know the quick answer is to just buy a Rem 700..lol. Yes, I know and I have already been looking on EE for a donor but I need to exhaust the Tikka route first as it just appeals to me more than the Rem.
Thanks in advance.
