Hey guys,
I am looking to get a Scope for my .223 Sps Varmint but i dont want to spend a mint for one i have to many hobbies :D. I will be using the gun for thinning out the Yote population around here and target shooting at the range and im not a competition shooter by any means just do it for fun. I am looking to get a quality optic that is 4x16x44 or 4x16x50 there are so many options out there its hard to decide. I want to spend max $500 and if i can get one at lower would be better but without sacrificing alot of quality. It would be much appreciated if you guys could recommend or let me know what you run in that price range and how they perform.

Cheers

Check Cameraland NY a site sponsor, say you belong to Cdn Gun nutz to get the best deals. I just bought a rangefinder and a spotting scope in the past month. Great folks to deal with. Cheers Roscoe

The Bushnell Trophy series of scopes are the best "cheap" scopes that I've ever used.

Have one installed on Ruger 10/22 and on a Marlin 336C in .35 Rem.

Adjustments are accurate and repeatable.

I have a new Redfield (cheap line of Leupold) scope on my Ruger M77 in .30-06 that is a bit more expensive but good also.

every year i try to buy at least one of the older redfields ..... i really like the scopes .

a couple weeks ago i got to get my hands on a new red field ..... i really like them , now if they would just come in the low profile / tv veiw style redfield is famous for .

i suspect the new redfields will be the scope the other scopes in the same price range will be judged by .

The "old" Redfields were THE scope in the day but the market share was soon gobbled up by Leupold and the company went belly upd:h: in the 80's.

The biggest complaint was in customer service and repairs where Leupold outshone the old Redfield company. I can attest to this myself. A couple of Leupolds I returned for repairs were back within 2 or 3 weeks but I put up with hassles and waited months for Redfield to fix a scope that was on a so-called "lifetime warranty" (they must have meant that it took a lifetime to get them to fix anything:rolleyes:).

I still own a couple of the old Redfield scopes. They're good, solidly built scopes with crystal clear glass.

you can have a Vortex Crossfire in 4-16 with a 30mm tube brand new for $225 or less. plenty of scope and decent quality, leaves money for ammo. life time warranty, I have one on my 204 and my TRR.

Buy the best you can possibly afford!!!

Vortex also has some decent scopes, get the best that you can afford. Scopes aren`t the place to cheap out....

Well said and very true!!!

If you buy cheap in this area, without a doubt, you WILL buy twice so get the best your budget can buy. If at all possible hold off a little longer to bank extra $$$ for the purchase. I know it will seem like forever but the extra cash you invest in a quality scope will always be worth it.
