Need to know shotguns

Hello everyone. Well the shotgun I'd love to get is rarer then fossilized hens teeth. So I would like to know what to look for in a shotgun before I go about purchasing one I like and is easier to find. My PAL and RPAL is in the mail and I have 2 rifles awaiting its arrival before I take possession of them so I'm covered in long guns.

Requirements for Game Shot Gun
Gage: 12 Gage
Chambering: Open to advice but thinking 3" or 3" 1/2
Action type: Pump, SxS or O/U if within price range but open to Semi's too need help deciding need pros and cons
Barrel length: Thinking 26" - 30"
Choke Settings: Single barrel with interchangeable chokes or multi barreled fixed chokes (HELP WHATS BEST and EASIEST?)
Price Range: Max $500
Sights: Rifle or one I can add them to easily
Targets: Canadian Geese and other Fowl. Deer and Bear when skilled enough.

Please note that it will be a good 6 or more months till I can afford this shot gun unless my finances change soon so I'd also like to know what would be a good cheap quick shotgun to get for hunting some birds this season. Thinking if I can finds something like a single shot 12 gage in 3 inch with a 26" Barrel as a quick to get shot gun till I can afford the other shotgun.

Please tell me if a shotgun sounds like it might fit my needs. Or what to look for in a shotgun that falls within the parameters I put down would be much appreciated.

P.S. I'm a south paw shooter but not afraid of a right hand shot gun if that's all it comes in.

As for the SG, you might want to look on the EE for a Browning BPS

The fit/finish/swing is pretty good, and been bottom eject, they are Lefthand shooter friendly!
 
Hello - I have a Rem 870 Express SuperMag pump action chambered for 3 1/2 shells. I use this for my waterfowl gun and it works flawlessly. However, for the versatility that you are looking for, you might consider one of the combo packages that are out there now. I have a Mossberg Turkey/Deer combo that comes with a rifled, cantilevered barrel for slugs and a scope. The other barrel is vent-rib with a turkey choke. Other chokes will screw in to the barrel, increasing the versatility of the system. I picked this set up dressed in full camo for < $500. In addition to this combo, I know that Mossberg offers other options, such as a waterfowl/deer combo, field/deer combo, etc. Regarding the choice of action, I am partial to pump actions as the speed of the second shot is good, with minimal barrel drift during cycling of the action and you only have one barrel to sight. I don't have much experience with semi-auto's, however.

+1 for the Combo you get a shorter barrel that is rifled to shoot sabot slugs for bear and deer and something like a 28 in. smooth bore for everything else. Interchangeable screw in chokes are the cat's ass for shot. You won't find anything more versatile than that. On top of the Mossberg, check out the Remington 870 combos. They are priced right and dependable.
 
You won't go wrong with either the mossberg 590, or the remington express 870. If you're going for geese, I'd get (and I did :) ) the 870 supermag for the 3.5 inchers. If you can find one with an extra rifled barrel great, if not, you can get a rifled choke tube, or just use one of the rifles to hunt bear and deer.
Only thing that's kind of annoying, is when you first get it, and run the El Cheapo trap loads through it, it'll jam with the spent hull in the chamber. Problem smooths out on it's own, after about 500 or so rounds. It still happens occasionally, but it's liveable, and it only happens with the El Cheapo target loads, so it's not like I'd ever have an angry bear looking at me while that was happening :runaway:
 
I wouldn't recommend a 590 as a game gun. You have no choke and need to make a long a$$ plug to keep it to 2 rds in the mag.
