Hey

Recently I've taken apart all of my vz.58 magazines so that I can properly paint them. I had to remove the rivet to get the follower out and put all the followers in a locked drawer.. I'm about ready to paint them, and when they're done I'm going to need to repin them.

I want to use the same sized rivet that was used before, so that I do not have to drill a new hole. The hole is already there and everything is ready, just need to put a rivet in.

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive tool that will work in pinning these magazines?
The followers/springs would have to be inserted and then the rivet must be applied, so it needs to be inserted through the floorplate area of the mag and go all the way up to where the pin is.

Any help is appreciated, I want to go shooting! its brand new and I havent shot it yet, been working on it for a month now.

Canadian Tire has rivet guns and various sizes of rivets, I think measured in millimeters. Measure the holes in the mags, and get that same diameter rivet. I would think one of the sorter lengths would be fine as the material is thin.

I thought the rivet was inserted from the outside ? On the one I have it is.

It is, however I just don't know what the hell I'm talking about when referring to the tool :D

I thought the tool worked from both sides, like pliers you sorta "crimp" the rivet in place.

I don't want to bend the magazine body, so hopefully if its only done from one side there isn't too much pressure.

I'll check C-tire and post back what I find, so others know too.

I think the rivets are inserted from the inside, no? The pin of the rivet is what a rivet gun grabs hold of. Stick the rivet inside so the pin pokes out. Not sure if there would be enough room for a rivet gun inside a mag body.

the rivet are install thru the outside with a rivet gun , the proper size are in my "my dragunov - how to shorten a vz/cz858 mag" , click below.

The only thing that needs to go inside is a washer if you want to use one...

washer not needed cos the recommended rivets fit perfectly. might want to dremel the length after .

Check and see if the rivets are steel or aluminum, any cheapo gun will do aluminum rivets, but a decent one like this does steel too. I cant remember but I think mine came with a couple of each rivets for about $35. But you can rent them from the depot, and just get the rivets you need. Mine comes in handy so it was worth the $.
