Need to Rant about some Slob poacher

Don't know what part of province you're in, and in no way am I gonna defend someone shooting on posted land, but there is a regular open Moose season which reopened in certain zones on Nov. 20. If this occurred in a zone that is not a part of this season, then I completely feel the conflict of report vs not report. Do what you think is right, and even if you don't report chances are it'll happen again when you are there.

Wish I could be more help!

Happened east of Saskatoon. I am under the impression that is a draw zone and regs said it closed on the 14th. If I am wrong then fine but the shot was on posted land less than 500 yards from occupied buildings that were in plain view.

Wanna hear an even crappier story? Just this last week.....
So I'm out hunting by my sisters place and we are in the field of her husbands uncle who farms scouting the coulees for white tail buck. We see two moose, A small baby and a moma cow. We think it's kinda cool, however don't have a moose tag so just enjoy the fact that there down there residing in the coulee. One of the best things about hunting the nature the animals all of them even if your not hunting them.
The next day two seriously waste of skin people are driving a black Ford pickup through the field along the coulee. They entered a posted fenced field. Her husband can see that someone is driving in the field because he's in the area promptly drives over to kick the trespassers out.
Just as he starts to get close enough to clearly see well, he pulls up. he can see one of the two guys shoot down into the coulee, get back into the truck and start to pull away. He bombs into the field stops them to inform them they didn't ask for permission and were trespassing. As he's talking to them he glances down and sees the baby moose shot twitching on the ground. He states you guys just shot that moose ! They say nervously good luck proving that smugly and drive off. I even asked did they look like they seen you and were just trying to get away before you got there, and he said no they looked like they just shot it for fun.
Happy ending he took down there plate and reported them and gave a statement to the conservation officer. He said they were in huge doo doo and they removed the moose(probably for research or something).
At least in your story the moose got consumed I just can't believe some people. They were young but old enough to not be doing crap like that. I hope they have a huge fine to pay, this type of behaviour makes hunters look like psychopaths just killing for fun. Granted out there nothing really goes to waste as I'm sure the yotes would have a feast it just makes me see red. I have been putting in for a moose tag almost every year and they just erase one for fun what a waste. I would have loved a moose sadly now if I ever do get a tag in that area who knows how many less there are going to be. That might have produced two three four more in the coming years. Not only that its increasingly hard to get access to land because of examples set by idiots who don't respect diddly

oh dear saskatchewan again

whats wrong with people

I kept them in line when I lived there, since I moved, they have gone hay wire!;)

OP, can you push forward with the report and make it clear to guilty parties that it is not the elderly folks doing it, but rather you and you alone?

I gave the elderly couple my promise. They are really worried about a pissed off neighbour doing something. A***les have been known to cut tires, wreck fencing and so on. When I move down there it will be a little different as I am a little more mobile and capable of dealing with BS. I may not be able to block bullets but I can certainly keep a truck out of that area. It is amazing how useful an old set of harrows in tall grass can be.

As far as shooting it out of season no big deal there. Shooting on posted land without permission. Not nice.

Sorry but shooting out of season is a big deal to me. Folks have to know when it is safe to sled, quad, and so on without worrying about fools in trucks driving all over the place shooting out of their windows at everything. I may be painting with a wide brush but rifle season near cities is usually a gong show.

I feel your pain.
Walked 40mins into wildlife lands.
Sat down and started rattling.
As I see a buck come out of the bush I hear a truck approa hing.
They shot 3rds over me at the buck who ran away.
I was down below on the slough bottom so they had no idea.
Slob hunters.

Friend of mine can attest to the same thing. He was walking out of the bush on his farm just after shooting light ended and saw a truck go by, stop and then the guy got out and shot at him. Needless to say he shot to to let the guy know he wasn't no deer.

Good thing the idiots were crappy shots and your friend kept his cool. That could of ended very badly.

I used to use a decoy now and then but there is no way now. Not even in bow season.

I understand what you're saying. I'm 2 hours out of Regina and we get the city crowd out here too. Best place to go deer hunting is on wildlife lands. Most guys won't get out of their trucks and it's illegal to drive them there. Guys drive all over private land even with no permission.

So when is it appropriate to report OP?

When they actually shoot someone? You said yourself they were being unsafe, in addition to poaching on posted land. This needs to be reported so they don't end up hurting someone next time around.
