I just rebarreled two M1 Carbines with new 18.5" Criterion barrels and now I need to get them reclassified as non-restricted. (self isolation projects!!)

Can anyone recommend someone who is able to reclassify? I tried the Calgary shooting center but no luck.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Greg

Call the CFP at 1 800 731 4000 and explain what you want to have done. They will patch you through to someone able to help. Seeing as you used commercial barrels, there may be no need for you to find a verifier.

Hmmm.... I’ve been thinking I should do this myself because of the current political situation.

Where did you get your barrels?

the negative thing with doing this to GI rifles is it IS a bubba you have destroyed the original rifle now IIRC the cfc will NOT let you put the original barrel back on either

Not being able to go back to original is probably fine as the idea was to be able to actually use it off the range was the intent. They can always sell the original to someone with a RPAL and get a few bucks back.

I need to do the same thing. I got nowhere with the CFC insisted I needed a verifyer

Call and ask to speak with Valerie Kekanovich. She will walk you through the process, if she's still there.

The people at the CFC can be extremely helpful or not so much, depending on whom you speak with. They often don't know their jobs well enough to help you, but most will at least try.

If they're telling you they want you to get a verifier, ask them for a contact number of one that's close by.

I've had two verifiers recently tell me the CFC is demanding pictures, instead of verifiers. My experience has been they want both a verifiers' form filled out and photos. They will accept all of this from emailed scans.

Original barrel is almost worthless you would need to find a restricted receiver in order to install it the right colour make year and month of manufacture of the receiver to be correct, you don't need a rpal to own the barrel you are taking an original ww2 rifle and destroying it as far as collectability buy a plainfield or one of the new ones if you want non restricted

Well, receivers aren’t restricted,so......
And as for not being able to go back to the original configuration, that’s no problem. The CFC can’t dictate what we can do with regards to that.

actually the receivers ARE restricted if they were registered with and 18 inch barrel then stripped to receiver ONLY the receiver IS restricted

the CFC will NOT allow you to install a restricted length barrel on a M1 receiver registered as non restricted they CAN dictate they will refuse to register making you in possession of an unregistered restricted weapon.....

Rebarrelling a 12-6 to restricted is a one-way journey. Are you sure the CFP will not allow a non-restricted long gun to be rebarrelled with a restricted length barrel and registered as restricted?

You are probably correct about the RPAL. Perhaps I was thinking of a 12-6 barrel discussion. However if you had Carbine that had been already butchered and had little collectability value then that would be a practical thing to do.

I had attempted to have a non restricted re registered as restricted and they would not allow it this I have tried twice with M1 carbines the cfc said one way journey with this

is the law?? not sure all I know is it was a no go with the two attempts I made
