Would any of you happen to have a spare case they could lend me?

Bought the sweetest little belgian Martini rifle at an auction last month. It was billed as being in .25 Stevens, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. The folks over at Gunboards feel it's more likley in 25-20.

I figure I could likely at least exclude 25-20 if I run one in there and see if it fits. If I need to be sure, and I do, I could always drive it to the Gun Mechanic a couple hours away for a chamber cast. Just trying to ballpark what I have here...

Cheers,

Dan

The .25 Stevens is a Rimfire cartridge and
the .25-20 is a Centre Fire cartridge , check the position
of the Firing Pin to determine which your rifle is.

Hey, Skwerl.

Yep, so says Cartridges of the World, page 614 of the latest edition. Haven't had her apart yet. Can't see the bolt face on her without teardown. Trying for an easier fix before getting too deep...

there is 25-20 single shot , in these guns,
25-20 Win is a totally different animal
these are center fire ,
as is 25/21, and 25/25 stevens. these are straight wall cartages.
I use to have quite a few of these, but I sold all my ammo and parts while back
If you have a small mirror, could you see the chamber? straight, bottle neck, length?

OK, update:

1) It's definitely rimfire something. Firing pin lands along the top edge of the chamber.

2) Confirming this, an empty 25-20 WCF will NOT chamber in the rifle.

.25 Stevens, or something similar, is looking more like the actual calibre all the time. The good news is that the bore is quite nice and rechambering to 25-20 appears doable.
