Need Your Opinion- S&W 1911PD

Does anyone here have any experience with or opinions on the S&W 1911PD? I saw one at the gun store the other day and was very impressed with the overall balance and feel.

I was just wondering if anyone has heard of or experienced any negatives with this gun ? I have looked on various forums but have not come up with much information. The sticker price on it was $1100.

I have fondled one but I have not fired one. Would I buy one? In a heart beat! There is a $100 rebate on them in the States but the shop I went to did not have any. Regards, Richard

I've handled one too, seemed to have very nice fit and finish. The only negative I've heard was that some of the early guns had an extractor that was too narrow, but this seems to have been fixed. Also, if you did have a problem there is a Smith warranty centre in Victoria (and they have an office in Vancouver) so no big deal for repairs.

I owned a S&W 1911PD Gunsite Edition and I regret selling it. It shot reliably with any ammo and was far more accurate than I was ever able to take advantage of. The S&W 1911's are probably the most under-rated 1911's out there. I guess they just don't have the ### appeal of some of the other brands. But they are great guns for the price for sure. And FWIW, S&W will honor the rebate in Canada too.

I'd say buy it. You won't regret it.
