An RDB, but between the 2 I’d probably grab a VZ. Unless I wanted to add a chassis later, then the Ruger would be my choice. But honestly, for the money I’d just build an SLR or MS. Built one for about 1650 a couple weeks ago using a used rifle as a donor. Turned out ok.C4FFC424-536C-4959-BFC3-9172AFAF58A6.jpg

mini-14, I don't own one but do have a mini-30. I am happy with mine, my biggest reason for min-14 would be the availability of parts since that gun has been in production longer. A mini-14 is on my horizon, been there for years but other things come up. I if course, would not pass on a crazy deal on one.

I had a vz58 and have a mini14, if you're just doing mag dumps with irons, go with whatever you can get cheaper.
The new minis, you can scope them easy and you can actually mount the scope pretty low and get a good cheek position.
The mini14 also has better irons, but can benefit from tech sights if shooting irons often.
Mini14 magazines are worth their weight in gold. Tapco mags are good for plinking, ruger if you want upmost reliability.
I really liked the wk180c I had, for $900 on the ee I think they're a steal.
I am in the line up for a atrs modern sporter. Which will probably be the end of the mini14.

I don't know anything about the VZ58 but I can tell you that the mini 14 works well. I have the stainless target model and it's accurate and reliable. I shot 4, 5 round groups yesterday. The largest was 1.8 inch and the smallest was 1.1 inch. The mini does like to throw brass a mile so I ordered a gas bushing set to keep the brass closer to home. Still waiting for delivery on that.
