So the rifle arrived today and the scope is here and I need rings.

I missed a local DIP rail sale so I'm going with some dovetail style rings and keeping it simple. I did a little mockup tonight and I think I need something coming in at around 1" from the bottom of the ring mount to the centre of the scope tube which is 1" (VX Freedom 3-9x40mm Rimfire).

I started looking at Leupold rings to match the scope but having a tough time getting clear numbers. Anyone want to make some ring suggestions? Something in a matte and 1" bottom mount to centre tube.

If you plan to shoot beyond 100 I'd suggest a rail with 20MOA. Your scope only has 60MOA, so 30 up & down. You will prob lose a bit of that at the edges, too. I made that mistake on one of my rifles and to keep the rail I needed to get Burris XTR ring set to get proper Zero. JMO

Someone on another forum mentioned that Leopold dovetail rings have been discontinued, sure enough I couldn't find any. I ended up picking out a 20MOA MDT rail and some PRW2 rings, medium and high, so I'll mock it up and compare to see what feels better. Probably for the best.

When you guys mount these, do you just clamp and torque to spec things in place? Or do you mount the rings and use something like a Wheeler lapping kit to fine tune things?

these days with CAD and precision/automated everything only the cheapest of rings (which you should avoid) require lapping.
I use Burris zee rings with offset inserts and avoid that issue. If you got leupold rings you dont need to lap. also, the rail will raise up scope pretty high so probably low rings will do it for a 1inch tube.

I recently got a set of Sportsmatch dovetail rings from Airgun Source, look to be very good quality, fit the 11 mm dovetail perfectly and not expensive. They come in various sizes. If planning to do a lot of shooting past 100 yards you might want to consider a scope with parallax adjustment. I have the same Leupold Freedom Rimfire 3-9x40 and while it is a great, clear scope, the 60 yard fixed parallax is a problem for longer range, at least for me anyway. I find it starts to get blurry past about 80 yards. I have since replaced it with an Athlon with adjustable parallax and works much better for me.

MDT 20 or 40 MOA pic base,
Hard to go wrong with their rings either, though they are a but chunky.
I run MDT rails and rings on all my bench guns.

Lately I have been looking for lighter options for hunting.
Arken rings are quite good quality wise in my experience and lighter and more affordable too.
I am planning to try a set out on my "lightweight" hunting rig once it's built.

Whoops, Sorry. I just reread the OP.
Nevermind.

I got bad news about Leupold dovetail rings being discontinued and out of stock locally so I decided on a rail. P&D were basically out of stock on everything but Cabelas had a MDT 20MOA and PRW2 rings, so I tried Med and Low. The Low seem to be better with the added rail height and I’ll lap them a bit and torque things this weekend. Right now it’s just mocked up and I’m trying to find the best feeling position front/back.

Any 11mm dovetail rings will work fine. Tally highs should work. The Talley 11mm rings measure .350" from the receiver top to the bottom of the scope, so they won't work. The highs .600, then add anther .500 for the radius of the scope tube, and you've got 1.100". Check site sponsors first. If you strike out, Cabelas has them in stock.

Good luck.
