Needs Advice G96 gun blue

My Rifle has small spots where the blue is gone, shall I use G96 Liquid Gun Blue.
Has anyone used it and how shall the application be made as I do not want the barrel to become different shades after using it.

Any one with experience in this matter shall advice.
 
Follow the directions on the bottle and you should be fine. Any differences in the colour will be difficult to see unless you're very close. It'll never be exactly the same though.
 
I have used both liquid and gel g96 gun blue, the gel in my opinion is one of the best cold blue available for touch ups- however if you are particular on blending the touch up spots so they are unnoticeable or seamless FORGET IT. Chances of matching colour of bluing on gun is very slim. I have prepped and degreased with acetone to Sp degreaser from my chrome /nickel plating supplies.Used scotch bright, steel wool, power buffed and polished to prep surfaces to be touched up, and applied cold bluing at various temperatures by heating treated area on gun with heat source which does alter depth and darkness of bluing as does multiple applications- a good result is possible but an excellent result is not going to happen. You have to compromise somewhat with your results or reblu complete part for a proper finish in my experience
 
I tried G96 once as that was allegedly the best, but it didn't work out for me despite following the instructions faithfully. Now I use Brownell's Oxpho Blue. Oxpho Blue will give you a nice consistent colour on the rifle. I have found on .22s of questionable metallurgy, applying the blue lightly with steel wool will also get down into light surface rust and hide it from all but the brightest lighting.
