NEF Shotguns YAY or NAY

Looking at a NEF pump shotgun online for my boy's first shotgun for Christmas. Never handled one in person...so whats the word are they OK guns for the price?
 
I have never handled an NEF so I cannot say for sure, but I think that you would be better off buying your son an 870. The 870 express is the benchmark budget shotgun, parts are cheap and easy to source, resale value holds, and they have proven themselves reliable. I don't know what the difference in price is but I would say that you get better value with the 870.

NEF and Remington are both apart of the freedom group company so the quality may be par, but I would still sway 870 for all the aftermarket.

And I don't even own an 870...
 
NEF/H&R single shot shotguns are excellent, fool-proof work horse guns... but I would look elsewhere if you are looking for a pump or semi. Rem or Browning.
 
NEF ( New England Firearms ) shotguns are essentially the same as H and R. shotguns . I bought the H and R 12 g. Protector pump ( 18.5 inch barrel ) some time ago for 200 bucks , and it was such a heavy made and tough shotgun , that I beat the bushes , and bought a second identical shotgun . The shotguns are made in China , but in researching the brand , most owners describe them as being as tough as a tank.....you should be able to find lots of reviews and information via google...
 
Thanks Guys, I saw positive reviews on google. Just wanted some first hand experience. Of course i would love to get him a BPS but its just not in the budget.

Watch for a nice used one... a better gift in my opinion.
