I owned a construction business and my son works for me. He has to come up the same way as the rest of us. He has served his apprenticeship and now works as a journeyman. My supervisors are my best men, he does not yet have the skill and experience to compete with those guys, so he works for them. He is told what to do by the foremen and I ask the foremen to make sure he does his work correctly. He is still far too young and sloppy ( like most young guys ) to be a really professional tradesman. Maybe in 5 or 10 years he can become a first class tradesman, then he can run jobs if he has that ability. In our business a young cannot run older guys who know the work better than the young guy, the older hands won't put up with it and niether would I.
Maybe the kid will take over the company one day and maybe he will be happy to just keep working on the tools.
Both are good, both have my respect.
