Have been shooting at my club for about a year, using an Anschutz 1403. It has aperture sights front and rear, which work well for me.

One day, about 10 months ago, I made the mistake of trying "the hunting rifle" from amongst the club guns. Its a scoped CZ 455. I was shooting prone.

In order to see through the scope, I had to raise my head VERY high. Shot for about 90 mins. in several relays. Boy, that was a mistake. I have had a constant headache and neck pain/stiffness ever since.

Can no longer shoot prone at all. Have been shooting the Anschutz standing, but even that is difficult because I have to turn my head to the left (am right handed) and neck is stiff and sore looking left. Opened up my stance to minimize neck twist, but it doesn't really help.

Doctor sent me for a bunch of tests and even a brain MRI but found nothing.

Been doing physio and massage, with only minimal improvement. Physio thinks its a pinched nerve, but wouldn't it start to un-pinch now, after months of work?

The constant pain and headache is really getting to me. Its been going on for 10 months.

Anyone have any experience with this type of neck injury?

A few years ago I started having daily headaches and really sore neck. Saw my doctor multiple times and he concluded that I had a pinched nerve (not a tumor!) and it should go away over time. He gave me some pills, but I tossed them after a couple days because I felt totally stoned all the time and I still had headaches.

Over the next few months I did massage therapy maaany times, but it didn't stop my headaches. I tried acupuncture but that was a waste of time. I have never really had faith in chiropractors, but I finally relented. He did the thing where he stands behind me and gently massages my neck, then a fast jerk to the side, then he did the other side. Both times I heard a big crack in my upper spine/neck, and to honest it was a bit scary giving him that much trust! lol

I left there with a mild headache. It was way better the next day and completely gone on day 3 ... first time in about 4 months. I now believe in chiropractors! In hind sight, I now know it was something I was doing at the gym, which I promptly stopped.

i Have had great results using an inversion table. Strap your ankles and suspend upside down. It takes a bit of getting used to but it works wonders.

maybe consider chiro.....that said, I am not a fan of the bone crackers by twisting and manipulating - ESPECIALLY around the neck area. Find a chiro that is comfortable with using an activator. I miss my old chiro - she was great with that tool. Physio/massage is great also, but sometimes the combination is key. One thing I learned from my old chiro - have as many people on your health care team as possible.

Arthritis sucks - have that also. havent been a belly shooter for a while, I suspect I would be a bit sore after an extended session.

Someone mentioned “just a pinched nerve”… seems pretty benign but up in the neck area the muscles then spasm and constrict blood vessels to the back of the eyes and brain creating little headaches that persist for months. My pains are shooting related, repetitive motions, awkward positions….and then i don't have the brains to give it a rest, especially if the gophers are attacking in suicidal waves day after day… for weeks on end. And then you factor in holding your cell phone for hours on CGN looking at EE, girls with guns and new posts and you just compound the problem. There is no hope, there is no cure and sometimes it takes nearly 2 years for that pain goes away only to be replaced by some other new PITA. Cheers
