...people would be listing powder on the EE for about $115/lb, but there it is. A person may consider a new sport if this is the new cost of components going forward. That's about $0.85 per round just for powder in a bottleneck rifle round. Add up to an additional $1.50 per bullet, $1.50 per case, and $0.10 per primer and you have rounds priced at almost $4.00 a piece (with taxes and shipping accounted for in the equation). Then again, some factory ammo, where it even exists, is nudging $80.00/box for plain vanilla varieties. It will be interesting to see where we are in a year.
 
Yes it is crazy! Our gun shop barely has any powders, some primers and some bullets…. I’m going to buy more primers tomorrow!!
 
I just posted some ads from ####### in another thread. I like to make sure credit is due if they see it or someone knows who posted it.
 
Yes, this is definitely going to reduce the participation in the shooting sports and shooting hobby. Very bad for all of us, even if we still have older components and aren't paying these prices yet.
 
Lead shot is up 30% at the distributor...Flats are almost unavailable, as with powder and primers. When you do find them, they will be up 30-50% or more also.
 
To be fair, a pound of varget from any retailer now is $89.60 after tax.. what do you suggest people list their pounds at that would be fair to the royalty complaining here..

Let’s be real, if I have something and I want it, I’m only going to part with it for more than it would cost me to replace it, my time and fuel included.. that’s only sound business practice, otherwise it isn’t going anywhere and the other person is going without, and I’d bet if it came down to a couple twenty’s between the guy that wants the powder having it and not having it for his hunt or his match, no one in the transaction ends up upset.


And to the guys that we’re lucky enough to stock up on powder when it was 40$ a lb, well the reap the rewards of being patient.. again, to the guy desperately hunting for something he will be more than happy that someone kept it, regardless of the price (within reason)

If you can’t keep up with the times and afford to shoot, you could move to .22, or air rifles or start shooting crossbows.
 
I'm shooting less and less because of "inflation", scarcity and price gouging. If it continues on this path you can be sure that more than just myself will not be enjoying the sport. Short term monetary gains for certain individuals and companies are only going to hurt the Canadian firearms industry as a whole. I'm sure this is also going on in other sports/hobbies as well.
 
What’s crazy to me, is it retailers or the manufacturer

18 months ago, I bought several hundred Federal 165 grain trophy bonded tips, price was $42.99 per 50 amazing bullets and lasted through many range sessions and hunting trips.. in that time they discontinued the 165, and replaced it with a 175 terminal ascent that’s otherwise identical… the only place I could find them in stock had them listed for $109.99 per FIFTY… it was cheaper for me to go buy 20 round boxes of factory 175gr in federals premium line for 49.99 a box.. substantially cheaper than I can reload for… 2 years ago you could reload 20 match hunting rounds for easily 50% of what the retail box costed you…
 
Add to that the price increases from Caldwell for skeet and trap targets, the price of fuel and fresh fruit to pack in with your brownpaper bag lunch.......

things I've observed......

declining youth and family participation.....far less rapid fire and spray and pray from the SKS fanclubs, less commercial brass in the bins for us to sort through.....no long line ups to get a shooting bench, no long waits to change targets..way less target backer damage, less garbage and debris on the range......the sound of crickets
 
Relax guys, everything is under control... this is (temporarily) the new normal...

I think I'll be riding my Road Glide more this year ....
Guys supplementing their last CERB via the EE.. I aint got time for them.

It's like the housing market....sure I could dump several pounds of powder I paid $30 for at $80/lb, but it will cost me that or more to replace it.
Could make half a mil on my house but anything out there for sale would be a downgrade for the same price.
Inflation blows.

The only way it makes any sense to sell anything today is if you are moving to a low cost market or getting out of a sport completely.
