the 12 gauge can cleanly kill almsot any animal on the planet and pretty much eveyr thing on our contenant it is so powerfull every anti's believe it must be banned.... just after they get rid of those aweful hand guns i mean who owns a hand gun they are ment for killing :p

i know this chatridge probly puts more food on people tables then most others it can drop every thing from moose to rabbits in a clean ediddable mannor with no little waisted meat and it can also do this but don't tell cooky cuckier your using it for hunting she allready thinks this is why you have it

that is bullet resistand glass as you can see from the mark from the 45 acp and .223 nato spec ball ammo rounds

the whole artical here for any one intrested in it
http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot6.htm

you can also find info on dime and salt loads for yor 12 gauge on this site and they're effectiveness

thats kind of a cool site. wish i was older -likely retired with enough time and money -like the guy from the sight with nothing better to do than shoot various things!

I think what he's trying to say is that we all ponder different calibres, mag vs standard cartridges, and yet all you really need is a 12ga. With High Velocity sabot slugs its got a shjtpile of speed and energy, and birdshot for the smaller kills.

What animal in Canada won't die after a hit from a 385gr slug with 1900fps MV and over 2300flbs of energy at 100yds?

Too true, a shotgun is such a versitile weapon you can hunt anything with it. Can't same the same for any other gun!

while i am not saying the 12 with slugs won't take down an elk or moose, the use of such is illegal in BC. kinda messed up, one can hunt moose with a 17 remington or 22 hornet, but not a 12 guage with slugs.

Yeah, that is phuct up.

I think you might run into trouble if a CO caught you hunting moose with a .17. Everyone knows a 30-06 will barely take them down at close range. :D

Actually, the 30-06 is fine at close range. It's anything out past 100 yards that would be better taken care of with a 300WSM.

Too true BDFT. The 300WM is only adequate as well.

Shotguns are great.

If only they had the range of rifles!

Well, I've read on here a thousand times that most game is taken at 100yds or less, so I guess the 12ga would do for 99% of all hunting. People just don't like to admit it.;)

Legally, not in BC, because it's the law.

Moraly I would not even begin to think about it.

Alaska has the same strange allowance in it's regulations for big game hunting too.

Other Canadain jurisdictions that allow sub-6mm for big game, in centrefire rifle are:

Northern Ontario (I may be a little off on this, please correct me fellas)
Manitoba
New Brunswick
Newfoundland & Labrador for caribou only

I am unsure of the both Territories and Nunavut.....

Canadian provinces vary even more so with shotguns.
For example NS allows down to 28 gauge for a single slug projectile.
(most all eastern provinces forbid any buckshot)
Saskatchewan, even allows down to .410 shotgun with a slug.
As previously mentioned BC does not allow slugs for moose or grizzly, but I think they allow it for deer and cougars?
I think Ontario and Alberta put 20 gauge, as thier lowest allowable slug.

Ontario's regs say:

The following cannot be used for hunting moose:
• A rim-fire rifle
• A shotgun smaller than 20 gauge when loaded with shot (you could use .410 slug)
• Any shotgun loaded with shot smaller than SG or No. 1 buck.

You know its funny how uninformed some people are. I remember going deer hunting at a friends camp. When I arrived they all looked at my slug gun with its 23" rifled barrel and leupold VXII scope. They all commented on how they used to deer hunt with shotguns when they were kids. They told me that the shotgun is an excellent starter gun. The funny thing is, I laughed inside when I looked at there .30-30's, .270's, .308's etc....... My point is that a lot of old time hunters are not aware of modern shotgun hunting technology. By no means was I undergunned or lacking range. None of these men have taken deer beyond 200yards and the majority of shots are limited to and under 100yds(dense brush). It will take a long time before a lot of hunters fully understand the awesome power and performance of the 12ga loaded with premium sabot slugs.
