Never tattoo a girlfriends name on your arm

that looks like S$&T! I wouldn't reccomend painting over with the flaking present. Use paint stripper as said above, plastic nail brush on the checkering, and give it a coat of flat ANYTHING BUT FRIGGIN PINK. I don't know where you guys find these girls that want pink guns...mine says they look funny. She's a blued/walnut type of girl :)

Yea, Easy Off, then into the dishwasher, as long as there's room what with your M14 already in there!

Seriously though, Easy Off would work well, but the idea to just paint it in something "manly" to overcome the girly juju (like truck bedliner) is a solid idea.

I actually painted a 10/22 stock maroon/burgundy with silver overspray for my girlfriend (now ex).... I kept the stock, it still looks manly enough, but if another girl wants to go shooting, i can pop my 10/22out of the stock it has now, and use that!

i should mention that the stock i have now is a boyds ss evolution in theapplejack scheme, so it looks girly as is.

:)

 wow, that guy must of really been in love!!! That is just wrong, a pink Savage.

Good luck with however you choose to fix it... I think it is a good time or reason to buy a wood replacement and throw the savage action in it.

Just so you can see what I'm dealing with

I hope it was a good deal.

I'd try to strip as much pink as possible with thinner, or something that won't damage the stock.

Then, lightly sand all parts that can be sanded, with 400 grit, then 600, then 1200. Refinish with durable spraypaint and make sure you FOLLOW DIRECTIONS FOR DRYING TIME.

Personnally, i'd go with a can of High Temperature Flat Black paint. If that thing can resist the abuse and heat of a BBQ, its safe to say it'll do a hell of a good job on a stock. I've painted bikes with that stuff, and it was a killer look too.

And remember, the key to a good+durable paint job is preparation of the surface.

I have a pink Savage Cub I bought for my granddaughters. The only issues i have with taking it to the range is that it's too bloody short! That being said, yours is starting to peel and flake, so I'd strip it before doing anything else.
