but, I think I have fallen in love with the new light weight Hunter Mod 11. My oldest son bought a new one last year in 260, it has been standing on the big chair in the living room for a few days now. During the advertisement's in the Y&R show my eyes went straight to the lil Savage, every time. Certainly she is not an eye sore in any way. She looks so very awesomely sweet and impressive! I thought that nothing would ever come between me and my Browning Micro Medallions, but! No 260 in the Browning Micro's! It looks like a joy to carry! And Accu-tigger to boot. When she first arrived new in the box a new Redfield scope was locked down and topped on her. First few shots (half box or so) were very impressive! 3 shot groups touching in a cloverleaf! But then something happened, the groups were no more, they went to shot gun patterns. So she stood in the back row in the safe for a year. It was just now discovered that the scope was at fault. Does anyone else have any experience with this rifle/cartridge? I'm a solid Leupy man and am sticking to my guns on that, so if I go shopping for a mod 11, it will be topped with a Leupy! I have offered my son my Browning Stainless Stalker 260 in a swap, but it's a no go! The Browning has a right hand palm swell, nfg for me, I'm a lefty!

I have one in .308Win. The model 11 lightweight is fairly nice (not flawless), with a few small concerns:

1. Yes, she has a pencil barrel and is not a bench gun; however, more than three rounds in 3 minutes and groups wander bad.

2. The fluted bolt took about 50-80 rounds before it wore down the flutes' sharp edges and stopped sticking.

3. The magazines are based on the Savage Axis: they tend to be a bit flimsy, known to break and are expensive to replace. I bought a spare and I think it was $55.

The main thing with one is being able to kike all day with one. With the rifle, sling, mounts, Minox scope and a full magazine of .308 she's 7lb plus less than an ounce.

I've got a model 16 in .308 and i couldn't be happier with it. Accutrigger, Accustock, metal magazine, not the plastic axis one. Shoots way better than i ever will be able to.

I have a model 111 in .270 Win, it's my most accurate rifle. The thing is a laser beam, I am a huge savage fan now.

I bought a Savage 116 4 years ago and it's been filling my freezer ever since.

I plan on building a target rifle for my son and I to play with and it will be built on a Savage action for sure.

My dad uses a 700 and I've always appreciated them. I like that, with inexpensive tools, you can home gunsmith savages so I've grown to love them.

Out of the box savages are damn accurate too.

I own a few, never had a single problem with any broken magazines

The only part of the mag on the axis that worries me is the one piece plastic spring/tab. Will it break over time? Who knows?

I like the looks of the mag design of the Rugar American better.

I no longer have a Savage of any sort in my safe.

The later rifles, shoot like lazers but are still fugly.

The tolerances on them are much closer than they used to be and in all honesty, they are a great bang for the buck. I also like their barrel nut system. It works well and certainly makes barrel changes easier. If I were looking to build a switch barrel rifle, that would be the way to do it.

Still, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Not only that, I really dislike the accutrigger.

That being said, they are fine rifles with a great heritage.

Savage 10 heavy barrel .308 never misses a beat and planks the silhouette gongs out to 500 yds all day long! Looking for the head of the ram on a good day just so there will be some challenge! Love the accu-trigger!
