Money is tight right now so I couldn't afford a black rifle or precision rifle build, however as Don Corleone said

"A man cannot be a real man unless he spends time tinkering with his guns"

It started out as a plain Ruger 10/22 with the cheap composite (plastic) stock, basically the cheapest model they make.

Added a Dlask 12.5" bull barrel....

with their modified Levang compensator.

Modified the factory plastic/composite stock for the bull barrel. Incorporated the cheap NC Star "Universal Weaver Style Quad-Rail Barrel Mount " to the fore end with some TIG welding and grinding. Used some bondo to give a raised cheekpeice for use with a scope. Picatinny mount is too far forward for a comfortable vertical fore grip but it is perfect for my Surefire which will be great for a late night rendezvous with raccoons in the henhouse.

Arma-Coated the metal parts after bead blasting them. All except the scope,(Simmons 4X) it is what I had laying around in my box of gun stuff. Hope to score an optic bargain on the EE before spring. I can tell just in the mounting that the Arma-Coat did not adhere to the smooth scope body but media blasted parts look great.

Painted stock with a textured dark brown from a rattle can, they laid over the stock with a mesh (from the dollar store) and tried to use up the left over Arma-Coat. Very simple design but looks cool.

Just waiting on some parts from Rimfire Sports, target hammer and a couple other goodies.

So far I have spent $500-600 total.

Now I just need to get out and shoot it.

Really like it!
how much weight does the dlask barrel add?
The arma-coat looks sweet, I'd like to build something similar to this. I don't know much about arma-coat - is that something I can do myself, or do I need to send it out someplace?
How about you OP? You help me out?

Not really noticable as far as I can tell, barrel being shorter makes the total mass about the same but being shorter it will be stiffer and handle better. now I am wishing I had weighed each one but they are darn close.

Check thier website (just google them) and "murdoc" on this site is a dealer or owner or such like. Bought my arma-coat at a local shop (The Shooting Edge also a sponsor on this site) for $29, might be cheaper and more color selection if purchased direct. I got the parts bead blasted at a local shop, (paid minimum charge, $20, and used their equipment) Bought a princess auto "mini paint spray gun" for $20 and it worked great.

So you can definatly do it yourself but you do need some equipment. I had a buddy's heated garage and decent air compressor, plus media blasting facilities nearby. If you have only an apartment kitchen table at you disposal it might be best to get them to do it for you.
