Actually, my first gun (since I was a kid) was a 12 gauge 870 express with 2 barrells.WELCOME!!!!!! Also that is a great gun to get started with, too many people go larger center fire and miss the ease of a 22,
I was actually planning on keeping it open sights for awhile. If I do get a scope, I think it would be one of those little ones, with only one mount point. It seems that would help keep it more accurate. I can't true 2 rings together with the equipment available to me.price of amo, and they are pretty forgiving if you make a mistake while shooting or reassembly. Field strip her a couple times, oil the friction areas and shoot her to hell before modding it at all. I would suggest using the sights it has for a short while and then see if you want to put a scope on it.
About the sling, it hung the thing off my back for todays walk. It could be better, I suppose, but it's what I have now. If you think I should have something prettier, go ahead and suggest it (preferably with information so I can price/purchase if I like it).X2 on the sling, yuk.
The only mod you should worry about right now would be to buy lots of ammo and getting in some trigger time. All the mods in the world won't take the place of practice. Have at er.

For now, I am just glad to have a sling, and think it was a lovely gift.
I like the way it shoots, by the way. It's a fun little gun.

As I see it, this is the simplest, cheapest one available. If there is a better suggestion, I will really consider it.I'm glad your enjoying your rifle. You can buy a sling swivel kit for your rifle. Uncle mikes makes them in several styles and none will break the $20 mark. A good sling shouldn't cost you anymore then $50, in either nylon or leather. Don't buy one of the fancy, stretchy type slings with shell loops and what not. Simple is better (and cheaper)
For my 870 I don't/won't put a sling. Most often it is for camp protection, so it's place is in my hands (or my sweethearts'). I will consider doing the same with this one. I dragged through a bit of thick willows today and did notice the sling getting hung up a bit.But here's a tip: Stop using a sling. They are handy for climbing or carrying other stuff, but most of the time a rifle on your shoulder is the worst place for it to be when you need a quick shot. They also get in the way when going through brush and hang up on every branch. I found now more often then not I prefer just to carry my rifles. Have fun with your new toy.
I don't know what a '.920 barrel' is, or an 'over molded stock' but I know what a dime looks like.nice gun. i've had two different 10/22's over the last 35 years. the blued one
i sold about 13 years ago to buy a stainless. they are great guns.
iam running mine with a butler creek .920 barrel and a hogue over molded stock.
depending on the ammo you can cover a 10 shot group with a dime a 25 yards.
