I had the opportunity to visit and shoot at the new Trinity Long Range near Vernon/Lumby BC. This is quite the range! The owner has created this on private land and it is a bit unlike anything I have seen before. Mike O'Rourke is a hard-core long range enthusiast and set about doing it right. He has a range suitable for shooting 12 months a year. The shooting is from a fantastic heated indoor building, with 6 shooting positions (prone or bench). He has steel gongs from 500 yards and beyond, and has paper targets from 100-400. Each position has a spotting scope for an observer, and he supplies bags or led-sleds for them that want them. The thing that sets this apart is it is not a drop-in facility. You book this for serious shooting. This means you don't have rambos with their SKS's destroying the range, and it means that you have the luxury and privilege of using a facility that was intended to allow you to hone your precision shooting skills.

Mike charges $20/hr per person, but you are not simply getting a chair and a bench. Targets are replaced and repainted as you request. The first 600 yards are in a ravine that has been carved in the earth, meaning there is little cross wind to worry about, so for load development and practice, it is stellar. I sincerely hope that the benchrest crowd checks this out... it is nearly perfect for short an long range. F-Class and TR types, well, with persuasion, we might talk him into electronic targets. That would make it the first range in BC capable of having such matches.

On the Gucci side, he has wifi, a washroom and a reloading room for load development. If you are looking for a fantastic place to reach out, check this range out!

Google Trinity Long Range.

I'm hardly a precision shooter (yet) but that sounds like one hell of a range to check on my next trip back to the okanagan.

Much of the fun and challenge of shooting at longer distances is correcting for wind shifts. How is one to improve their long distance shooting ability if the wind factor is taken out of the equation?

have you ever shot long range and then laid in bed in a cold sweat wondering if it was you, your load or the wind??? ever had the one shot haunt you for days, weeks, months??? have you???? well I have

If I was younger I would give it a try, I will limit my shooting now to 100-200 besides that's a long walk :)

Get a quad!
If i had access to 1000yards, i'd buy an inexpensive 2wd 350 4 wheeler for target placement

Wish this new range was in eastern ontario or western quebec right now...

Says restriction on military type semi autos and 338 is biggest caliber......

I thought this was the place that was going for 50bmg certification?

I can’t wait to give this place a try in the spring? Looks fantastic and is exactly what suits my shooting style right now. Have a bunch of calibers and rifles that I really want to stretch their legs, and this looks like such a comfortable, relaxed, and no hassle to me Range to do that in.
We often head out on crown land and set up targets etc out in BC, but it’s lots of work and hassle and set up, and I’d just rather let someone else do all that, and just set my rifles up on the bench and shoot for the day and not have to worry about anything else.

Another great potential range just blocked itself out of many potential customers i am sure...
Even though i'd go there with a bolt action and shoot slowly to try my best, i'd fast cycle/fast empty my mag from time to time and see how much hits i can land anyways.

Rebarelling a BCL102 to 6.5, with good handloads and a scope, would probably show great potential at distance, but would have these kind of folks have a stroke at first sight.
