Well, it is what it is. Unless the range controls all areas within the 50BMG template from the CFO, and there are no risks of human occupation within the template, you won't get approval for it. The 338 LM has a longer, but narrower template. There could be a road or public land within the 50BMG template, but not so for the 338lm, and it's possible that this is impossible to mitigate.
I have no personal knowledge of this range so I am only guessing.
Having spent a week with Mike last year while he was still finishing some of the work on the place can tell you he fought hard to get 50 cal approval, BUT there is a residence within the template. So no go on 50.
He has done a stellar job of putting together a great range facility. There ARE neighbors not too far away so noise is a concern to a degree, which I think explains part of the semi auto thing, AND at the time he was trying to work things out with the CFO to get it opened there were far fewer NR semi auto rifles than there are today.
To the best of my knowledge Mikes range is not set up for restricted firearms at all which could also be part of his thinking. He is a very reasonable man and I think if he were approached by someone wanting to shoot something like a MH he
may allow it on the condition of no mag dumps.
His benches are rock solid, the shooting station well thought out and comfortable, certainly not the place for the spray and pray crowd.
Unfortunately as humanity degrades, more and more rules are required to try to keep the stupid in check.
Rules can be relaxed at Mikes discretion based on the individual, but he still needs a bit of CYA working for him.
You have to understand that this is a private enterprise created by the passion of one man, who is offering to share his personal range with the public. At $20.00 per hour I can assure you it will take an awful long time to recoup the millions of dollars he has invested in the purchase of the land and all of the work for the SEVERAL MILES of road he had to put in as his expense and then the earthwork for the actual range, building of the buildings etc.
