new 10mm from STI

me too. options seem a little limited. Kimber, Colt delta (hard to find), the Dan Wesson (even harder)...?

I have a 10mm DW. What a great gun

That is what I understand. Heard nothing but rave reviews.

If I could find a nice 10mm long slide 1911 I would jump on it. Until then this will have to do

Doesn't 10mm fit in a standard frame? If it does, someone could always pick up a cheap .40 (SAM is $450) and have it reamed to 10mm or just get a new barrel and springs.

There was a thread a month or so ago by someone who was doing just that (might have been a Trojan though). I wonder if any of the current crop of factory 10mms in the 1911 platforms are beefed up in anyway or are they all just employing diff springs / buffers. I was told the sti perfect 10mm was more purpose built for the 10, but have no idea if that is accurate.

It takes mass to control the slide, not springs. Tough springs just slam that slide forward, while a heavy slide can utilize lighter springs and just glide back into battery.
So yes the gun does have to be designed for 10mm, that's why there aren't many options, who wants to design a gun around a rather unpopular caliber. Some have tried adapting, the result was cracks, and fractures.

I've got a glock 20, the springs are nothing spescial but the slide is one hunk of steel compared to other chamberings.

interesting. i have heard the glock is one of the stronger 10mms on the market. i wonder if the fact that many 10mm these days are likely to be straight 1911 45 conversions, is the reason why factory loads have really been toned down. federal AE is basically loaded to 40S&W specs, some hornady is pretty warm with 180gr at almost 1200, but still none like the original norma with 200gr at 1300.

I have heard that this is so. I'm interested in a 10mm as well, but only one that can stand up to magnum-class loads. I suppose I'd look at the STI if it had the strength... I guess all we can do is wait for some T&E reports.

10mm loads were reduced over 20 years ago at the request of the FBI, agents were complaining about heavy recoil. Then they adopted the new .40 S&W, but ammo manufacturers kept the reduced load 10mm.

The whole point of Coopers 10mm design was to get the bullet of a 45 with the velocity of a .357. I too am interested in a 10mm but not if the guns can't take the original loads.

If I wanted a .40 short and weak I would have bought one.

Kimber, Colt, Glock and STI all make great 10mm's that can handle full power 10mm, stay away from Tangfolio's (sp) 10mm guns though, I hear of a lot of problems with them.
