I've recently parted with my 12 ga. shotguns. Now I'm stuck for waterfowling and am starting to look for a replacement. Generally my M.O. is to sneek into range (20 or so yards) and shoot from cover. I am turning to you lot to hear what you have to say about the following:

Over/Under vs. Pump vs. Autoloader; and,

Barrel length (26", 28", 30")

Have fun.

It's all up to preference IMO. Shoot whatever you're most comfortable with.

Myself, I prefer an semi for waterfowling. Since you're sneaking up on them, camo can be important...many pumps and semis are available in camo...something to keep in mind.

I'd go with a 870 Express with 26". Like the camo idea also but black will do. My old 870 was dragged through many a corn field and marsh, soaked with water and covered with mud but it always came up firing. Tough and reliable and don't break the bank.:)

Look at what I feel is the best there is for waterfowling a Beretta Xtrema2 with Kick off.I have owned 2 since they came out,I started with a 28inch and just moved down to the 26".I found that the 28" felt like I was shooting a 30" because the extra size of the kick off recoil systm made the whole gun feel longer(because it was). The recoil reduction system is outstanding,if you have a chance to shoot one try it out.
I also have owned a Benelli M2 with the Comforteck stock and I feel the Xtrema2 will out preform the M2 hands down.
*But this is only my opinion*
I also own 2 870 pumps a 1100DU and a outstanding AL 391 Urika with a
28" and a 24"fully rifled cantilever deer barrel.
The choice is up to you good luck in finding a new/used gun to use.

Cheers

I got a new Benelli Cordoba last month, and so far have only shot clays with it but wow! Everyone that trys it cant belive how soft and fast it is and how quickly you can get on your second target with it.

Not sure what model the Cordoba is? Is it the one with fine Corinthian leather?

The Cordoba is the matte finish version of the SuperSport.

It doesn't come in 16 gauge.:p
It doesn't come in 16ga. and only has one barrel. That will save me some money.

Try anything you can get your hands on. You don't have any really demanding requirements. Three shots is nice. Something that loads fast (fast reloads) would be nice (a double with two rounds held between the fingers will give you 4 quick shots). At 20 yds I'd go for IMP cyl or maybe even skeet (so you might want something that will allow you to change chokes). Barrel length ? whatever comes on the gun but for sneaking you might prefer a shorter one.
