So I just got a norc 1911 sport model. First pistol :d

First mod was change grips..

After stripping the gun down I noticed the sear, disconnector and sear spring are all a reddish color. All the other parts look normal. I'm not sure if its rust or some treatment, it doesn't really 'feel' like rust but what do I know. Its most noticeable in the sear spring pic the other parts don't show up as well but they all look pretty much the same in person. Take a look...

sear spring

sear

disconnector

compare to firing pin

The grip safety is also kind of mushy. Any easy way to fix this? Google said bend sear spring leg but I'll wait for advice on this..

Besides that the gun seems to function fine. Haven't fired it yet. What do you guys think?

Just the type of steel they used for the parts, the hardness, and the blue doesn't sit so well with it.
My chrome sport had the same except the sear was more of a goldish color.
They are MIM'ing all the small parts now, so sear, disconnect, hammer, safety, grip safety, sights, etc.
The older GI pistols were all forged 5100 series steel, even the small bits. No idea what they are making them out of now...

The right hand leg of the spring - the one bent towards the rear, applies pressure to the grip safety. The middle one is trigger and disconnector and the left leg is for the sear.

Probably best to not touch the middle or left legs.

Let us know how it shoots.

Can't wait. I don't even have an att yet. First restricted so the process is a little :bangHead:

How does it work. I will apply for att (ltatt?) this week when I can get some free time. Will I have to wait for that to be approved (being told it could be several weeks) before I can go shoot or can I also get one for the day sorta thing?

I found those red springs to be deficient in heat treatment, and was never able to get a consistent trigger pull on the dozen or so that I've done. The hammer and sear are also soft, less than 10% of the usual number of strokes brought them to spec, but I doubt the engagement will work satisfactorily for a thousand rounds. Toss their three finger and put in a Wolfe, they gave me instant consistency.

The ATT process varies from province to province, but for the most part you will need to be a member of a club before they will issue one.

Whole att mumbo jumbo is ridiculous. When transferring a pistol it should at the very least automatically begin the process for an att to every range you are a member of. Think that just makes too much sense though. Either way congrats on your first pistol dark_1 and enjoy .

Thanks jongun. Yea its pretty backwards. I called miramichi a few times because i knew they would want range membership proof. Was told to just wait. Eventually received a letter asking for range membership proof..provided it..transfer approved after a few days. Well that's why I was calling! To try and speed the whole process up I mean its quicker for them too isn't it? Doing everything for the file at once. Gotta do the whole loop again now for att. Losing over a month of my membership in the process.

On a side note. What sear spring do you guys recommend? Already have a vote for Wolff.

I've never had a reason to use anything other than Wolfe springs in a gun. I also had a sear that was too soft in a norinco 1911 and didn't notice that something was wrong until it started to double. Cheap and easy fix to put a new one in from Brownells though.

Dark any questions you may have the fellows here are a wealth of knowledge and very helpful in answering these questions. Learned a lot in the short time I've been licensed and I owe most of it to the fellows here on the CGN forums.
