Put think maybe 500 or so rounds thru my nearly brand new ruger 22 hunter and it is getting lots of FTEs.
I have tried 333 walmart ammo and lastly some Federal ammo. About the same. Not FTF but FTE. I have not taken the gun apart yet to seriously clean it as its a bit intimidating to me but guess will try that shortly.
I have read that some have disabled the mag disconnect and the round in chamber indicator? I like those features though and didn't want to elminate them unless have to.
I ordered an vsomething or other hard to pronounce exact edge extractor and did read quite a few people found that really helped things out in regards to FTE.
I also admit to being a bit paranoid about cleaning the barrels of my guns ,since some are saying I can run the barrels with cleaning if don't use like a bore guide and exactly the right kind of bore brush, etc. Its all freaking me out. Some are saying the almost never clean their guns but assuming the barrel unless it starts to lose accuracy and shoot bad.
Other guys in gun club say they clean their guns almost every time they use them. That seems a bit exccessive to me. Are the bigger bore guns less easy to damage with cleaning the barrels without a bore guide? How can a brass bore brush hurt things when steel is harder than brass?
I don't know what to do.I would guess first though take this darn ruger apart and really clean out near the extractor. I will obviously have to take it apart to insert the edge extractor.
Almost starting to wish had stuck with MK2 mine is the MK 3 ruger hunter 22/45. I like the gun otherwise. But those FTE are driving me crazy.
I also picked up a Ruger P345 and am very happy with it. Works perfectly and so far. Feels great in my hands and very manageable recoil.
