Having a hard time deciding on a scope for my new target 22 rifle. This will be for shooting small groups at 50 and 100 and I would also like to build the setup that I have seen on long range shooters of u***. know your limits at 50 with targets from 1/2 to 1/4 I believe and another larger setup at 100 yrds. The idea would be to go back and forth so a shot at 25 then 100 then back to 25. This would most likely require holdovers cause dialing back and forth could become tough. I should have been a little more clear in my intentions when I started this thread. In saying that it will be a multipurpose scope instead of just small group shooting. I am actually interested in trying this with a group of people eventually. Not sure if anyone has adopted this idea in Ontario yet. As for scope I would like to stick with variable zoom. Second focal plane, Moa adjustments. Right now have it narrowed to sightron 10-50-60 and vortex golden eagle. Do not want to spend more then 2500 after tax. Am I missing any other options in my price range?

WOW, AWESOME! I can't wait to see the review of what you get! what rifle are you putting it on?

not sure I can be much help with stuff that high end as its worth more then my vehicle LOL. I just have a Sightron Sll 6-24 target dot on my Anschutz Match 64 and it seems pretty clear well past 100. The thing with shooting .22 is that its going to be 50 or 100 yards target and most '<$1K marginal decent glass' can clearly see .22 impacts out to 100/200 no problem. but hell yes, if you can afford it go for the best #### you can get!!!

Not that it is relevant, but what rifle are you using?

The Sightron is a great scope. Why the MOA 2 reticle? It has a target dot that you'll likely find covers too much of your target.
The following is the reticle, from Sightron's web site. The center dot measures .25 MOA.

Consider the LRTD reticle or the Fine Crosshairs reticle. Here the LRTD center dot measures .1 and it won't obscure your aim point on the target.

I've got the S3 10-50 on my 54.30. It's perfect.

I have Leupold vx iii 6.5-20x50 long range on my Anschutz 1710, that's my new set up. My original set up was CZ 452 with Mueller Target 8-32x44. The Mueller is a great scope and has great tracking, 1/8 MOA. You can get those new for about $300.
I went to Leupold because of Lifetime Warranty. They will fix the tracking after years of shooting for free.

Thanks for all the responses so far. Rifle will be a cz 455 vpt. Just waiting on exporting. One I get it trigger will be changed. Manners stock will receive larger pillars and be bedded. There apparently will be a Canadian barrel maker that will be making match barrels for it this summer. Also thanks Grauhanen. I had no idea the moa 2 reticle had a .25 center dot. Toolman what reticle do you have on your s3?

leupold 45x, isn't a bad dedicated 22 scope and will run you less money. about $1200 usd is the typical sell price

I don't know if they come with AO. I haven't used one so can't comment on close vs far range

Just read some reviews. It does come with AO and you can have parallax adjustment down to 10 yards if you like. Some good reviews on the scope....

The night force benchrest would be another option in 8-32 or 12-42 .np-r2 reticle.

Now there is good value. A used on of these is hard to beat. You can pick them up for 1300-1500. Forgot all about them. OP if you want, I may know where one is for sale in that 1400 range. Like new.

Maybe worth mentioning/maybe not. I have an S3 with the MOA2 reticle on my .223 Varmint gun as of a couple of months ago. With almost 50 year old eyes, it's about as small a dot as I'm personally comfortable with but again, my purposes are hunting, not target shooting. Amazing clarity though, can't believe I waited that long to get a Sightron S3. Predecessor was a Vortex Viper HS.

On the contrary, I also have a Weaver V-16 with a target dot and it's so small that you don't even notice it right away. I've never checked the spec online but have no reason to either. It's a decent scope in my estimation, and if I end-up with an Anschutz Tactical Trainer..the Weaver will move from my 17M2 over to the Anschutz. Maybe not forever, but I'll start with it.

Thank You for your input on the sightron s3. It does seem to tick off all the right boxes for me. I think the only thing really holding me back is that no one around me has them that I am aware of

I think I would consider the Sightron 8-32x56 LRTDLR with 1/8" per click turrets. I have a couple of them and for 100- 300 yrd bench rest shooting they work awesome. I don't know why you would want the LRMOA reticle for the type of shooting you say you want to do that reticle will be almost useless .

Hi

Good to know. I have not looked into the 8-32x56 model. Everything I read seems to gravitate to the 10-50x 60 Also It is not that I want the lrmoa reticle there was just a used one on the exchange for a good deal. I actually really like the fine crosshair and the target dot as well.

I beleive sightron also makes a 10-50x60 with the 1/8" target dot and 1/8" per click turrets.
Accually I just had a look in the EE and there is 2 of these scopes listed right now.

Hirsch Precision is also a Sightron and Nightforce dealer. Great folks to buy from, Peter and Donna are good people as are the guys that work for them.
Be careful with Leupold re: minimum focus distance if you intend to use the scope for close range shooting, 20 yards for example. They only sell a couple scopes that will focus below 25 yards, that information can be found in their website in the reticle pdf. Having said that, they spec 30 yards for some of their scopes, mine will focus at 25 and slightly under, can't quite get to 20 though.

Both my Anschutz wear a Sightron 8X32X56 with LRTD fine cross hair with a dot reticle. I shoot mostly 50 yards and also some 100 yards with them. To me, this is the perfect set up for precision rimfire bench shooting.
