243 win
In an earlier post some one pointed out " should ask this question before you by a rifle , then choose a caliber", so true. This is my 3rd 243win, number 1 was a blr, open sights I could nail a rabbit at 200 + yards , #2 was a savage mod 11, I had a smith do a trigger job on it, after that I could tear a ruffies head off at 100, this one is # 3 and it shoots better than the first two. I have shot gophers, yotes, wolves, deer, (a few big bucks ) antelope, moose, and black bear with the first two 243's .In some of these posts fellow members refer to proper shot placement.Yes I agree, but proper shot placement is a must for every caliber, shoot a moose in the guts with a 30-06, will it die any quicker than if it was gut shot with a 243 win. The 243 is basicaly a 308 necked down. How much energy is transfered to a deer shot with a 243 compared to a 7mm mag at 100yards? Unless you hit bone with the 7, I think the 243 would do a better job.
