Just picked up a super shadow in 243wssm, my 270wsm same model shoots very well so I couldn't resist when I saw the 243 wssm on the shelf at the gun store.
Looking for feed back on the rifle/caliber. I use to have a 243 win savage, one of the best guns that I owned.Shot lots of game with the 95gr nosler ballistic silver tip reloads, very accurate, easy to shoot, can I expect the same out of the wssm?

there was an article in the october 07 issue of Handloader magazine about the 243wssm, they were getting the best groups with the 75gr v-max

243wssm

Shot my 243 wssm on the weekend, blows up coyotes real goooood.
Shoots great and not very load with very little recoil. Nice and lite to carry, adjusted the trigger a bit. Now to field test it on some big game, bear season opens on the first of April, seems like a good time to see what the wssm can do.

Buy a bunch of brass as soon as you can. Even if you're not reloading it now. Manufacturer's marketing types will drop a cartridge if it doesn't meet their sales projections with no regard for the customers who did buy. Having brass means you won't be stuck with a rifle you can't get ammo for.

Don't want to start something but a 6mm on Bears?????

I've got a Browning Varmint Stalker in 243 WSSM and LOVE it! Great accuracy and a ton of fun to shoot. Makes a mess of dirt pigs with a 70g BT out well past 300 yards. Only issue I have with the WSSM case is it is limited by the mag and action to a short COL so VLD bullets are almost impossible to seat without stuffin them way into the case. Try Hodgdon BL-C(2) ...fantastic results. I have 150 brand new Winchester brass that has all been prep'd for benchrest quality reloading. I'm planning on load development for a heavier 95g or 100g pill for deer this summer. I'm going to also pick another bag of brass next time I have $40 kickin around. I wonder why Nosler hasn't come out with a 6mm AccuBond yet?????????

I came very close to buying a Browning varminter in .243 WSM but after doing some digging and finding out that Browning was discontinuing that caliber I changed my mind. Everything I've heard is that it is very accurate.

243wssm

Loaded up some 243 short rounds up , 95gr Nosler ballistic silvertip, WLR primer, win case, 42.5gr of H414 ( MAX LOAD !!!!! ), Got 1/2 inch groups at 100meters.
I liked my Savage 243win, but the short version is just a little better. The report of the short 243 is less than the 243win, almost no recoil , as for brass if they drop the caliber from production , cases can be made from 300wsm cases, so this round will stay active as long as reloaders want it to. I shot bears, deer and moose with my 243win , can't see why the 243 short wouldn't do the same.
I am also aware that there is less " room" for error in regaurds with bullet placement with the smaller calibers as compared to a 300 mag, but for almost no recoil , lighter rifle to pack the 243wssm should be looked at for sure. My is going to the mountains this fall to chase rams. Going to try some other loads , will post results.
