New .30-06

Hey all,

Relatively new to the hunting scene and an out to buy a new rifle. Budget is around $1,000 for rifle, $300 for glass.

Help me make a decision!

Remmigton 700XCR
Weatherby Vanguard SUB-MOA SS
Browing A-Bolt SS Stalker

Pretty set on the Leupold VX-I or VX-II in 3-9x40.

I voted for the 700 because right or wrong, if I were to get a Weatherby, I wouldn't think of getting it in anything other than a Weatherby round. I had a hard time saying no to the .257 at Pheonix the other day.

I voted for the Weatherby out of those two choices. But, I agree, get a savage, great accuracy and great value. I love mine.

Maybe so, but the advice given would apply to a 30/06 as well and besides a .308 is hardly a "toy gun" compared to a 30/06.

You should consider the Tikka. It's no toy. If your really looking for a working gun why aren't Mauser (ie. Winchester, Ruger..) based guns an option?
