new 30-06

Seeing as this is going to be a nostalga piece, I would go M-70 Super Grade, or a M-70 action in a tastfully constructed custom rifle - built along the lines of the rifles made by Winchester in the late 1940's.

Another vote for a springfield custom. If nostalga is much of the idea here Rembo, I think turning an old Springfield action into a modern day classic for the '06s birthday would be too cool for school.....

Seriously consider the 700CDL, I have two of these, and they are both very functional and ergonomically pleasing. FWIW, Both mine are very accurate, as well! Regards, Eagleye.

It won't be a Rem 700, I think I've owned at least 60:redface: Rem 700's/Sevens/722's/600/660's,..never had a 721 though., stopped counting at about 50...I had a list here somewhere..going back to about '91.

I passed up a real nice pre '64 M70 standard rifle in 30-06 at the gunshow on Saturday,'54 vintage.....seller said it was original...I say it was reblued,...had a price worked out and then he pulled the GST crap:confused: so he still has it...;)

Good suggestions guys, I like the custom idea but I'm not into stock work (no patience) , hell, cccan even does all my bedding work for me:D

If cccan would volunteer (maybe if I tell him he has to do it or I'll chop his 416barrel at 18":D ) to do the stockwork, and I can find a nice action we could do it up.

It has to be a controlled feed action, no doubt there...maybe a custom '17 Enfield?....nah, had a few of those too.Too much work to get them nice , remember the part about patience? A plain old NIB M70 Sporter LT or a Featherweight might be nice......as long as it has the Williams bottom metal....:D

Why would you bother building a 30-06...you have a nice 700 left hander in 30-06 right now...just learn to shoot it.. or we'll work out a deal on my cz...... and oh yeah ..if the barrel of my 416 ends up being 18"...that will be ok as long as you are standing beside me when I shoot it:)

I though this link might prove interesting for pre 64 M-70 enthusiasts, and would be a good start for a special .30-06 project - if your pockets are deep enough......mine are not.

If you are a big bore enthusiast, they also make a special action for the .585 Nyati. I got a kick out of the fact that they claim the only mass produced product they make are super fine steel shavings and high grade saw dust from thin shelled walnut.

New/old .30-06

Some darn good suggestions thus far. I suppose it's a subjective thing but when you shoot a Sako L579 Forester Deluxe or a L61R deluxe Finnbear you will see for yourself that there's more to the classic Sako thing than just a name.

I still prefer these older ones.

I also have a Mauser-actioned Husqvarna I bought essentally unfired for $175. that shoots amazingly well.

Fun to try something different...

I've owned a few Sako's, a couple L61R's(270 and 7mm Rem Mag), a couple L579's,(7-08AI that became a 284 and a 308 that became a 22-250), three AII's(22-250,243 and 7-08 FibreClass with McMillan stock of course) and a couple AI's in 223 and 6PPC they're OK, but not what I'm after this time around. Had a Husky in 30-06 once also...

Just got rid of my sps remingtons and kind of liked the CDL until I saw it, ...then I laid my eyes on a savage american classic and had to have it, awesome quality and very pleasing to the eyes, beautiful mag set up, hi luster blue, unreal stock etc etc

Rembo

Sounds like the Husky might have been one of those guns you sell and then regret???? Pick up another one in the small ring mauser or maybe even a Carl Gustaf with the push feed action. Now that's a quality gun that needs little except maybe a trigger in the mauser action. My two cents but then again I'm biased!!!

30/06, walnut, blued, American bolt rifle. Dakota Arms has just what you're looking for. Check it out at www.dakotaarms.com. Just don't look at the price list.

The CDL is gorgeous, best looking new rifle I've seen. I just picked one up in .35, and I'm already thinking about getting another one in .30-06. Beautiful, sweet-shooting little rig.

The classic is nice, don't get me wrong I own a couple, but the CDL puts it to shame;-)
