Finally broke down and bought an Alaskan 375 couldn't resist for the price I paid, so Iam thinking about loading the Hornady 300 RN even to a mild 2400-2500 fps with the factory iron sights should make a good bush gun, thinking of using H414 cause I have 8lbs, any opinions welcome.

I think the rifle lends itself nicely to an iron sight rifle, but I'm not knocked out with the white bead, which is a bit fragile or the open rear sight. If it was me, I'd invest in a ghost ring and post set up. Either way you've got a very accurate and reliable general purpose big game rifle there.

Although I haven't use it, 72 grs of H-414 behind a 300 gr bullet should get you close to 2500 with moderate pressure.

It's pretty hit and miss. Not real hard though if you keep an eye out for it. I use it for my 6.5/375 Ruger and with a little looking around I can usually find it in Calgary.

I paid 825.00 new, I bought it cause I like the gun, I usually hunt with a 35 whelan or 9.3x62 so I probably won't load it to the max, a 300 grain rn at 2300-2500 is just fine and brass should last a long time, just hoping H414 will be a good powder, but I also stock alot of IMR 4350 and IMR4064

I heard they are selling them cheaper now that demand has dropped off. Can you say how much did you paid for it?
