When the Patrol optic came out, everyone got pretty pumped about that lower price tag.

Looks like Aimpoint wants to cut a chunk out of the budget optic market too. They just announced their Aimpoint Carbine Optic (ACO) thats got a $393 USD price tag.

Curious on how its actually different from the Patrol, and whether it maintains the tough-body, long-battery-life that they built their brand on.

Aimpoint, the originator and worldwide leader in electronic red dot sighting technology, has announced the introduction of a new sight designed specifically for modern sporting rifles such as the AR-15. This new product, known as the Aimpoint Carbine Optic (ACO), expands upon the company's already proven designs and focuses these features into a high quality, entry priced optic.

This new sight was developed with the modern sporting rifle owner in mind, and the ACO is ready to mount and shoot directly out of the box. A full suite of branded accessories, such as front and rear flip covers, an anti-reflection filter, and spare battery holders are available from dealers, and allow users to customize the sight to fit their specific requirements. The ACO pairs a 30mm aluminum alloy sight tube with an extremely rugged fixed height mount designed to provide absolute co-witness with AR-15 backup iron sights. A two minute of angle (2 MOA) red dot is utilized to allow maximum target acquisition speed and accuracy at all distances. The ACO is completely waterproof, and offers one year of constant-on use from a single 1/3N battery.

"The Aimpoint Carbine Optic is the smart choice for today's modern sporting rifle owner," said Brian Lisankie, President of Aimpoint Inc. "By choosing this optic, shooters get a premium Aimpoint sight at an extremely friendly price point. If you own an AR-15 rifle, the ACO is exactly what you need to complete the package."

The Aimpoint Carbine Optic has a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $393, and will be available from Aimpoint dealers in mid-to late October.

Perfect I've been looking for something cheap but good, two words that don't often get along.

Without much of an announcement, Aimpoint is now offering a new, entry level red dot sight designed for modern sporting rifles (a.k.a AR platforms). The Aimpoint Carbine Optic features a 2 MOA red dot, 10k hour operation on a 1/3N battery, waterproof housing, 30mm body, and absolute co-witness with included fixed-height picatinny rail mount.

I’ll go ahead and qualify the value/entry level moniker by explaining that building an optic using only the most germane features for a given use allows Aimpoint to tailor the product and the price to a specific market. This is a budget level RDS in the sense that it’s lowering the price of entry into a top tier brand.

Comparing the ACO to the Patrol Rifle Optic (PRO); no NVG level settings, the mount is non-quick release, and there are no lens caps/covers included. The ACO appears to be very similar to the CompM2 featureset. Aimpoint will offer flip covers, anti-glare filters and spare battery holders as accessories for the ACO.

Aimpoint says the ACO will MSRP for $393 and will hit shelves mid-October. With the Aimpoint PRO found easily for $430, it’s tough to understand the value of the ACO. If the ACO’s street price drops and falls in line $100 or so below the PRO, then we’re looking at a $300 RDS that does everything a sport shooter could want.

As always, military members and LEOs would do well to contact Strohman Enterprises for the best price on this and all Aimpoint products.
