Good morning!
I just received some new Starline brass for my 45-90! Do I need to anneal it before loading for the first time?

Glen with my Shiloh it didn't group well at all ( 6" groups at 200m ) before annealing. I had to anneal it twice before my expander die didn't feel too tight going in. Annealing made a huge difference in my rifle. 5-6 seconds in a propane torch with the case turned by a battery drill.

If you are not using neck tension then maybe you could get away without it. At the time my match load used an expander that was 0.001" below bullet diameter.

Gen I have RCBS dies, but the expander plugs come from Buffalo Arms. You just unscrew the existing expander stem and screw in their custom ones. I have a million different sizes :). I generally size the case with the die backed off 3 full turns and then run them into whatever size expander I'm using.

Generally if I'm using neck tension I only use a little bit. With annealed cases and an expander plug 0.001" over the bullet diameter there isn't much.

i do anneal all of my new brass. From 22 Hornet up to 45-110 Sharps. For 50 cases it takes 20 minutes from start to finish. I am using the old NRA method using the rotating water pan and a propane torch.
