New 45 cal NOE mold

My new NOE mold 454 155gr. Almost done breaking it in.
I'm going to have to polish out the nose punch as it is leaving a ring on the bullet.
It's supposed to cast at 155 gr but it's more like 170 gr

Those are neat looking. What cal are you planning on using that for? Looks like they d be tough to cycle though a 1911 lol

I used this style in a 1911 before. I used to shoot a bullet that the nose was longer and had less driving band area. It's for target shooting. The lighter bullet is supposed to generate less recoil.

Tried the fifteen bullets I had made up.
Cast weight 170gr
3.5gr Bullseye

All fed perfectly
Not enough powder to cycle the action.

Nice to work with. Not all gooey like beeswax.
Just needs a little heat to flow.

Al likely cut those moulds to be on spec for weight using WW alloy. Nothing wrong with range scrap, but that is likely where your weight difference and nose marking issue are coming from. Your particular batch of scrap "may" be mostly pure or nearly pure due to lots of 22 and similar slugs in the mix. Just for argument sake try casting a few with WW alloy and see if the nose marking goes away, as you may possibly be compressing the nose enough to leave that marking. I also have a "BUNCH" of NOE moulds and find them to be very close to as advertised for weight and dimension!

I checked out the NOE website and found the design for this bullet and while they advertise it as 155gr it actually weighs in at 167gr with WW.

I have checked the hardness of the range scrap. It's anywhere from 10.5 to 14 BNH
