New 5.45 AR from S&W

Good idea, but definitely some hurdles to cross.

What are the chances of NRCAN approving the surplus 5.45 ammo for sale (honest question, not my speciality). Someone would have to submit it for testing, with manufacturers data, bilingual packaging, etc. And pay the fairly large testing fee.

Then an upper has to built to export spec for Canada. And I don't know if 5.45 is on the US no-go list. 7.62x39 is, 5.56 and 7.62x51 are too.

But, if someone DOES get the ammo approved, I'd be more than happy to try and get an exportable upper built for it.

There is practically no testing these days, but you must work directly with the manufacturer for specs. I am in regular contact with Arsenal, so that is not an issue. At this point it is chicken/egg. NRCAN's draft regs state no corrosive primers will be approved. It shows their intentions long term.

Why would customs deny import of an ammo? Is there some sort of prevision that says we can only have certain ammo intended for civilians? (cause everybody knows military ammo is so much more damaging than regular old hunting ammo  )

That's just a greasy move! Does this mean cheap ammo is more dangerous? Between our own government, and the BATF, I think it's time to work on my throwing arm, because rocks are all we're going to be trusted with before long!
