So my father (yes Dad I'm ratting you out here) has decided that he will be keeping my AR-50. I guess we'll just call it even on that car I wrecked when I was 16 okay!

So I brought home a Steyr HS .50.......Now what to put on top?

I am really leaning towards a Nightforce.......

I would suggest the ....

Bushnell 10x40 Elite 3200 Rifle Scope

* Matte
* Mil-Dot
* 1"
* Rainguard
* Target Knobs

I am NOT kidding, this IS the scope for your .50 cal
(get a "20 MOA base")

Hahahahaha, yes, you are kidding. :eek: :runaway: I hope.

No AO, optics look foggy at 600 yards+ and .50's will reach to more than three times that, very limited elevation adjustment (40 MOA, my Mark 4's have 4 times that) compared to a Mark 4, Schmidt and Bender, US Optics, or Nightforce. Not to mention it will likely get killed on top of a .50... A $300 scope on this rifle? I'd bet this rifle will easily be wearing $3000 glass.

If I was choosing Strangeday, I'd be going Schmidt and Bender, though Nightforce is not going to dissapoint.

Throw a Marstar scope on it with illuminated reticle for night time snipeing, or one of those high tech leaper scopes, good enough for an SKS good enough for the Steyr. Talk to you later strangeday ..............

8-32 x 56mm NXS with NP-1RR reticle. I felt that the 12-42 power on the next model up would have been great for benchrest but would have been a little too strong for practical hunting situations. I also varmint shoot with my Steyr a bit so I chose the rangefinding reticle. The Nightforce scopes have been more common than any other scopes on the various 50 cal guns that have shown up at the two 50 caliber fun shoots at Genessee.

I will say that the Schmidt and Bender is a great choice too. I had the oppertunity to try John Hipwells' Steyr out before I bought mine from him and it suits the gun very well.

you've got the money to go quality so get a Schmidt and Bender and ignore the Nightforce dweebs, seriously, contact VBull Precision and order a S&B, you'll never ever regret it. the clearest glass, the best magnification options, you name it. a nice 5-25 and you will have the single nicest scope built on this planet bar none.

My Leupold Mk LR/T works fine, and I can't say my Nightforce 5.5-22x56 is any better from a glass perspective. However, the Nightforce has a steel tube, and both looks and feels better suited to a .50. The extra weight won't be an issue on your gun.

On the downside, when you adjust magnification on the Nightforce, the eyepiece rotates - with flip-up covers, this is irritating as it screws up whatever direction you wanted the cover to flip to. On the Leupold, it's just a ring on the tube - the eyepiece does not move.

Also, Leupold makes the Alumina covers, which are head-and-shoulders above anything else from both a function and appearance standpoint.

And the Leupold has 10 more MOA of adjustment, which can only be a good thing.

Both of them 'shoot the box' equally well.

If I were doing it again, I'd likely skip the Nightforce and just do another Leupold. Having said that, I've never looked through one of the legendary US Optics or S&Bs - but, regardless of one's budget, I wonder about diminishing returns.

PS: is that the same Steyr I saw at Target Sports last week?

wow wow wee wow i never knew that:runaway:

Seems that every Styer .50 that is sold locally is topped with a big-ass Ziess. I'm going to lean towards the Schmidt & Bender crowd on this one just because I can. Just curious Strangeday, is there a 2000 yard range in your area to enjoy that .50BMG? Or do you just pop over to Saskabush to play with loooong range targets ;) Have fun with the new toy lad, and play nice :cool: :)
