new 50bmg in town boys

Your both right, My personal favorite is HWSBN but as Dan say's there are other builders in Canada, Im just saying if you compare prices and quality you can get so much more for the same money......Look very closely. I havent been impressed with what I see so far in our "factory .50 rifles" If I were to pick one, my vote would go AR-50, but thats just my opinion.

If the ammo situation ever improves, I'll seriously consider buyig one. Paying close to $10/round doen't exactly make me want to do my "happy dance".

Once I get the cats and bush hogs working and push the range to 1K this winter I think we should see more at our range this year.
Don't mean to hijack, but the brakes on these and other rilfeshave become a very big problem under our roof however, and I am posting a sign at the range with a new ruling that all braked guns be shot from the outside positions this year if other shooters are on the line.

The ammo situation.........yep pricey stuff but gotta say I havent regretted pulling the trigger on a $10 - $15 round, now if you are serious about the .50 chances are you will be reloading anyway, which saves $. Which ever route you decide to go, make sure your dealer has ammo or components available, very very few do, which makes buying a 5+ grand rifle an expensive wall hanger, but to each thier own.

I'm not a "fifty kind of guy", but I know quality when I see it (or the absence of it).
Whenever I shell out a pile of money on a rifle, I make sure I am getting the best for my money, and the factory jobs I have seen don't impresss me too much.
A magazine fed fifty doesn't make sense, either.
No need for it in civilian situations IMHO.

While I am not a fan of the 50bmg for civilian use , I find the 50/90 Sharps far more useable, I don't understand the problem with ammo, load your own, save money and always have some on hand.

Firing MG ammunition out a sniper rifle isnt considered right for 308 rifles, I dont get why people need to do it with a 50cal.
DITTO!
Spending that kind of coin on a rifle then shooting Milsurp out of it is about the same as running a 427 rat motor on regular gas!!:runaway:
It'll work, but you are defeating the original purpose .....

Having access to full-size AR mags might not make sense for civilian applications either, but it'd still be cool to have. ;)

It would be a lot more interesting if you could get ammo priced near what it goes for in the USA, like $3.50 a round for ammo loaded with Hornady A-Max bullets and M2 ball or AP for $1.75 each. Even reloading components are rediculously overpriced here, it keeps me from seriously thinking about buying a 50 BMG rifle. I guess we have to blame the American government due to their export restrictions on 50 BMG ammo and components.

I tend to agree and use A-max out of mine. But the flip side of the coin that was argued with me by someone else awhile back was if you have a lifespan of 3,000 rounds out of a barrel and ammo at $15 a pop for match ammo thats $45,000 in amunition cost. So banging off a couple hundred millsurps for bang factor is no big deal cause replaceing a barrel in the dollar picture is quite cheap.

Do some homework on this as well. Not all mil surplus is created equally. There's a number of ball rounds that have acceptable accuracy (relatively speaking) for the intended purpose.

In the US most of people buying thse are using them as big "plinkers" and not serious target rifles. Surplus components are the mainstay of this cartridge and a .50 BMG wouldn't be a viable option (for most) without them.

LRC, great point about the cost/fun factor.
