This is my 2nd rifle from Sean at North Shore Barrels (juanvaldez); I was so happy with the F-TR rifle he put together for me that I knew I wanted him to build this one for me as well.

Specs are:

LH Stiller TAC 30 Repeater Action
6.5 x 47 Lapua
Broughton 5C 1:8 Heavy Palma Barrel finished at 28"
McMillan A5 in GAP camo
PTG Stealth bottom metal with AI Mags
Timney Trigger
Stiller 20 MOA Rail
TPS Rings
Sightron SIII 8-32x56 LRMOA

Here are a couple of pics (more to follow when I have some daylight):

And here's how it did during my initial load testing (3 shot groups) with H4350 AND 130 VLDs:

I can't wait to spend a little more time fine tuning these loads and seeing what it can do out to 8-900m.

Thanks Sean!

Hey Scott, Nice rifle!!! You know you are going to have to change your handle. FTR Rookie seems a little dated :p

So far I really like the Stiller action. It's the first "custom" action I've owned so I honestly can't compare it to much. I will say there is a little more play in the bolt than the Barnards that I've handled, but it fed beautifully from the mag.

Question about 6.5x47L, I hear some folks are re-sizing .243 brass because of the large primer. Does this make a significant difference or is it really only something the top shooters will be able to take advantage of?

What velocity are you getting or maybe you can guess.

H4350/130 Berger VLD is what I'm shooting in my 260Rem T3 SPORTER , very accurate!
2900 fps ES17.00 SD8.00

To be honest, I'm not sure. For me the simplest thing was to buy 6.5x47 brass and just shoot it. The small primer supposedly helps keep pressures down, and from what I saw in my initial groups this should be fine for what I'm planning to use it for (ORA Precision and NSCC). I've got a lighter contour 20" barrel coming for it as well, which will allow me to use it as my deer rifle.

I was getting around 2825 with 40.5gr of H4350, which should increase as the barrel gets broken in (less than 30 rounds down the barrel). I'm thinking it will be around 2875 once it's all said and done.

Good morning Scott
My load is running 2886 using 130 Bergers and 41.0 G. of H4350 out of a 30 inch barrel this load is near MAX. in my rifle but the groups are tight.
You will be happy with this round after you get the right load worked up, maybe you will shoot F/O with that round and put the .308 to bed.

Cheers Bill

I would bet that if you make 5 or 10 cases from large primer brass like 243 or 22-250 you will get better groups with more even speeds.

My 6x47 was garbage until I started using large primer brass.

FWIW I have a 27" shilen 6.5x47 with 1100 rounds fired. I get 2840 with 140 VLD and 38.5 H4350 jammed. I get 2865 with 39 gr with a tiny bit of jump. No pressure up to 40.3 it just prefers the lower charges.

I find the 130 VLD's like about 2925 in my barrel.

little HUMBLE advices:

-start working load with a 0.020 jam as those bullets really shine in there

-don't forget to give Varget a try, there is a node at 2950fps with the 130 Berger that you should be able to reach.

-don't be afraid to pack the case with that H4350, small primers can take pressure. My node was at 42.3gr but was throated waaay long

-take a "shave" of the necks, slight but uniform

-if you cant get pass 2900fps, you may want to increase flash hole diameter to large primer size and keep small primer pocket. Have to try with a couple brass only before doing them all.

-28inch is a very good choice of barrel length for this caliber. I gained velocity when I cut mine from 30 to 29 as I was using XBR with a 130 JLK shorter bearing wall = faster burning rate powder.

your rilfe looks awesome....HAVE FUN cant wait to meet her
