Sounds good....flags will work wonders if you can respond quick enough for the conditions. What scope are you using?

### I am using a 36x leupold I think x44 objective I didn't bother with flags today as I only wanted to fire form brass but I was impressed by the grouping my 22 br shoots better groups than that but the brass is formed and the loads have been worked up and oal was tweaked but when it comes down to it my 22br didn't shoot as well as the ppc the first time I tried it but now I get a lot of groups in the ones with it so I am guessing the ppc will be an awesome shooter once I get the right combo

I will try to post pics by next weekend it is a wichita br action left hand port right hand bolt mcmillan stock gaillard barrel and 2oz jewel trigger toped by a 36x leupold scope.

good going

however it may not be a jewell 2 oz we know that 1 of the 3 guns had a jewell and 1 had a jart 2 oz the other we don't know the trigger shoe should tell you and I recall it was quite wide so it may not be a jewell

paul ross would know so when you come to the june 3rd shoot paul can tell you for sure.

we told you when we sold the gun to you it was a good gun

wish it would shoot terrible then we could buy it back from you

glad you like it and welcome aboard. hope you don't beat us up to bad at your first match in alberta

you like ##### must sing the canadian anthem in english to start off the match as a rookie

Hey sorry jeff. I doubt I'll be attending too many (if any:mad:  ) local matches this year. Tacoma may even be a stretch, but we will see. I always recommend that shoot to shooters since the crowd and time is fantastic. Beautiful scenario premium competition and wonderful draw prizes. Heck I still have my American Dollar from Russ Hayden for the 200 yd .195 5 shot group I shot in .......geeze when was that.... wait that wasn't a prize... well anyway its a hoot of a time. Allen Tucker from Leupold, Tom Dixon and Bruce Thom from BAT etc. etc. A real treat!!

Sounds like your shooting is improving with all your efforts and thats great to see. I'm sure it feels good to be out from the back of the pack. Now, I'll bet the local boys are all planning on seeing if you can handle the pressure.. I'm sure eveyone would like to be set up to stop work and go shooting for a few years like you....that would be nice. I'm guessing it will be a few (many) more years for me. Don't forget to enjoy yourself.....you only live once:)

Hopefully you can give Bill a run on his world record 10 shot group.....

Got to run.....

Jeff I can't even sing it in french maybe I can sing you the bikini bottom national anthem hahahaha about that trigger I will have to check it out I thought sure it was a jewell you are probably right I will have a look at it tonight there must be something written on it .
How many rounds would one expect to shoot out of a 6ppc before it looses accuracy can I just requalify it or is it better to replace the barrel Tony tells me about 1500 rounds that doesn't seem like a lot but he must know maybe I should call ted and have a new barrel sent over to me I have an idea that she won't last the summer I want to play with my new toy I will probably put about 300 rounds through it just forming brass weeding out the bad ones and working up a good load.

You really going to

put that many thru just forming brass and finding the load. How many you plan on doing? I would think 50 pieces max should take you the COMPETITIVE life of the barrel.

Calvin

Calvin I think I will be lucky if I can get 30 good ones out of 100 and that would probably be a good batch plus I need to practice afriend of mine back east is in to the ppc's and if I recall the last shoot I went to he only had 19 brass he only shoots the ones that hit at the same place saves the rest to match up with another lot of brass I know when I worked up loads for my 22br I only had about 25 out of 100 that were good enough to compete with and if I was going to be really fussy maybe 15 it is also a new toy so I need to get the feel of it I am having my lathe and mill shipped here in may so even if I would shoot the barrel out then I can give my whife an excuse to hang out in the garage.

At one time I did spend more time with my brass - sorting etc.. Aggs were better but then I shot more. Now I hardly find time to shoot and certainly don't spend the time sorting brass......maybe I'm lucky and its the brass. hee hee.

I did have a super Blackstar barrel back when I shot my .195 screamer @ 200 yds. It did very well despite all the controversy over Blackstar. Don Gentner won the barrel and then sold it to me back in the early days....hell I think even before jeff ever made it to Tacoma.... In any case I still have the barrel.

Don Gentner who has excellent $$$ support stated that after about 600 rounds the barrel was past its prime to beat any serious competition. I recall Tom Dixon from Bat saying - 1 season of shooting and then screw on a new barrel.... May jeff can tell us what his findings are with respect to max rounds for max accuracy and what methods he uses for brass selection. Of course if he told us all his secrets he might not enjoy any leads....

Coyote, if you get into the market for some 6mm barrels, I have a few in stock as well. Kreiger, Hart, Rob, Ted ........Shilen.....

Barrell life

Coyote, about 1500 rounds is normal for a B.R. barrell, although some can go past 2000, I had one when I shot the 1999 NBRSA nationals shoot good enough to place me 5 th in the 2 gun and that barrell had 2100 ruonds through it. The barrells usually will just stop shooting the small groups all of a sudden, it doesn`t hurt to have a spare barrell ready to put on when it happens, Ted makes a nice 4 groove 13.5 twist that I think works well

I guess it wouldn't hurt to have an extra 6mm barrel on hand just in case I will get one shortly I know I have 2 spare .224's on hand but I seem to go through those pretty good I guess I will call jgs and have the reamer on hand as well .

6 ppc bbls. are a funny thing. If you get a hummer it will last longer than the rest, but all good things come to an end sooner or later. When you have a good bbl. go it is like loosing a loved one. It takes a while to get over. Paul Jeff and I sat down and figured out the rounds on a gun I bought used that was built by Simonson. This gun had the best bbl. it has ever been my pleasure to own. Near as we can figure it had around 4000 rds through it. It was accurate all the way to the end and when it went it really went. It was literally blowing chunks of steal at the end. I tried cleaning between relays, I tried J.B. between relays, I tried praying to the gun Gods, the wind Gods, and the sun gods. I even consulted a shaman from the local reserve. I even almost listening to Jeff and Paul and try holding certain body parts while shooting a group. Finally I bought some bbls. So far I haven't found one that good, and probably never will. I still have that bbl. and visit it occasionally in the gun room. It will remain in the gun room for the rest of my life and then the wife can sell it to one of you B. R. bast**d's with the rest of my stuff to pay for my funeral!!!!!!!

Tony that is a sad storry sorry to hear about the passing of that barrel do you think if you would have been kind enough to treat it to moly it might have lasted longer or maybe just prolong the agony I know most BR shooters that I have talked with over the years don't use moly have any of you guys ever tried it in a bench rig I know I use moly in my 22 br's and they shoot great I have over 5000 rounds through one of them and it was a barrel of a rem heavy steel 22 250 ack that one of my buddys had one weekend it just stop shooting he was loading it heavy I took the barrel off rebarreled it with a new one I cut an 1 1/2" of the old barrel put it on one of my guns and have fired over 5000 with it plinking around and it still stays in a dime with good bullets and that is with moly I wonder if there would be any advantage to using moly in a 6ppc.

I've was shooting moly last year. Probably why jeff was actually shooting better then me....:D :D

NO seriously. I've been shooting moly for a very long time now. No problems that I have seen. In the BR gun I will run +80 rounds before a mild cleaning.

One of these days I'll try naked bullets again, but no hurry...

I think I will try the moly I use it in most of my other rifles so I guess it won't be any different I will try it both ways and see if there is any difference .
I just got back from N-B last night my lathe and mill are on the truck should get them by next weekend I would like start building something maybe long range I am wondering about those barnard actions I looked at them on the net they seem like a really nice action .

Don't forget the Gaulin actions out of Quebec!

I heard of it through a guy I met at a shoot a couple years ago he is from Quebec but I had forgoten the name of it I wonder if they have a web site I would like to check it out .
