New 6x47L - I like it!

37.5 gr of varget on a 105 berger loaded at 2.160 ogive to base ran 3130 in a 22 inch Krieger. Shot in the high .100's but it does beat up the brass.
H-5350 seems to be running good for us :)

37.5 grains of varget behind a 105 ? In my gun that would seize my bolt but I do have a tight turn-neck chamber.

I've been thinking about trying Varget since it gave me good temperature stability in my 308. H4350's temperature stability isn't nearly as good in this caliber. It's like an old IMR powder...

39.6 of straight H4350 in the 6xc is awesome too but slower in speed
a little mix of h1000 with h4350 is crazy accurate but slower as well
the 37.5 of varget on the 6xc seem harder on brass but no heavy bolt lift...slight shadow line of the plunger on the head stamp but nothing other then that...fair exchange for that kinda speed on a 22 inch barrel and 105 gr hybrid

You are mixing powders?

In anticipation of my barrel being past the point where I will trust it in a match (by the end of April):

Medium Palma, 1-7 twist.

Loving this caliber! The brass is superb! Shot some test groups the other day to test 2 different methods of polishing the necks. 26 shots total. Was right after cleaning, so the first shot was ~60 fps. slow, the next was ~20 fps. slow, then the following 24 shots had an SD of 5.4 and an ES of 23. The 10 shots with the better polishing method had an SD of 4.8 and ES of 15. This was in freezing temperatures, after leaving the rounds soak for a couple hours while I practiced. Virgin brass.

Have around 400 right now, but two matches in March, one in April and one in May. Anticipate around 400 rounds per match (match + train-up day + practice/checks before match). I'm hearing mixed numbers for barrel life. So, since its my first barrel in this caliber, I'm not going to take it into a big match after 1250 rounds. I can adjust that once I get a better feel for when and how quickly things go south with this caliber.

Yeah that makes perfect sense. Figured the x47 would get a bit better barrel life than my 243AI. But I didn't match shoot my 243 either. Wasn't nice to it. But I was nicer to it than regular PRS events.
My 243AI started to fall apart at 1200. I am at 1600 and it is toast.

Do you plan on running some 115's or similar through the new barrel with the 7 twist?

I've got just over 200 rounds thru mine, and had my first pierced primer on shot #202. :( Guess my smith will be getting some more business soon.
Not a hot load, 36.0gr of Varget at about 3050fps. H4350 is too slow, didn't even crack 2900 before I got ejector swipe. Trying some H4831sc but didn't go high enough in the first ladder, we will see if I can stuff enough in the case to make it work this weekend.

I've got a bunch of 115s and was planning on trying them in the current barrel once the throat eroded a bit. Honestly, I wanted another 1:7.5 but this is all I could find. I planned on testing a 1:7, but that was going to be after getting through these matches.

I got a pierced primer before swithching to the 0.062" firing pin.

You need to neck down the 6.5. But, all that requires is running it into the 6x47L die, so it just makes loading new brass the same as loading fired brass. No big deal.

Im running 39.7gr of IMR4451. Getting 3030fps out of my 25" barrel. 400 rounds and no pierced primer yet. I do see some cratering, but it isn't bothering me. I did switch out to a Getan firing pin assembly at about 200 rounds, but didn't over size it. Running CCI450 primers. Oh ya, 105 Scenars.

Finished breaking in the 1-7 twist today. Pretty cold and windy here. Hovering around 32F with an average wind of ~11 MPH, with some pretty good gusts.

Shot a group at 300y with the load from the other barrel. Wasn't too bad considering the weather situation...

Other barrel has 993 rounds on it and the throat has eroded enough to start playing with 115 DTACs. Tubb is supposed to release a new version of the 115 DTAC that has a G1 BC of 0.620, which is higher than the 6.5mm 140 Hybrid (G1 BC 0.607). 0.620 is about what I found the BC of newer 117 Matrix VLDs that were made with the thicker, longer jackets to be... I suspect I will be able to get this weight of bullet up to 3100 fps. with RL-26 given what it was able to do with a 105 gr. bullet.

At the rate things are going, I'm probably going to burn through this barrel too before getting a calm enough day to see what it can really do at it's peak. lol!

Would have thought RL26 to be too slow? Try any RL23? Did you try any of 115Berger VLDs? Wow if we get a 6mm with a G1 of .600 plus.

Looks like you are on the right track! Measure speed and ES next?
