RL-26 is slow, but the kernels are very small. I packed 45 gr. into the little x47 case and it got the 105 Hybrid up to 3200 fps. when I was breaking in the first barrel. Have some RL-23 as well that I will also try with the 115s.
I haven't shot any 115s in the 6x47L. I have in my 6mm Crusader, and have shot the Matrix Ballistics 117 VLDs. I blew up half of the old Matrix bullets when I first tried them. Then Marshal changed the bullet jacket to a thicker one that was also longer. This resulted in a longer ogive with a very tiny metplat. Shooting it in a round robin with the 115 DTAC and measuring the velocities and difference in impact, I calculated the BC of the new Matrix 117 VLD to be around 0.620.
I don't bother chronographing anything for the first 200 rounds unless it's a new cartride or I'm playing with some new components or powder. Barrels speed up a lot in the first 200 rounds, so there isn't much point until they settle if you're sticking with the same bullet and powder.
Nice! Now that I have something dialed in for mine I want to go back and try the 450 primer over the 205 and see if the groups and numbers are any better.
Put on the original 1-7.5 twist 26" medium palma barrel and started doing some load work-up with 115 DTACs and a few powders. The results are pretty promising. Was nearing 1100 rounds on the barrel when I started this test. 105 hybrids had slowed down in the barrel and weren't shooting that great anymore.
These were all at 400 yards off a Harris. Wind started to kick up as the test progressed.
My conclusion is that 115 DTACS work well in the 6x47L. I could easily get them up to 3100 fps with RL-26 and close to that with RL-23. Should be able to get over 3150 fps. with a new barrel. RL-23 seems to be the most consistent and gives the lowest SDs. Brass hasn't been annealed in 3 firings, so I think they could be better.
I would like to try some N150 and N160 with these as well.
