Hey guys I just picked up a new 870 express pump with the laminate stock and it is really nice. they have replaced the birtch color stock with a walnut looking one and it is durable and the action is smoothe they are really quite a great shotgun for the money. My question is can you shoot slugs with the regular barrell or do you have to buy the riffled one ? It comes factory with the modified choke is that an all around choke for most small game applications ? Should I buy another?

You can should regular rifled slugs ( sluggers) thru the bird barrel, but not with great accuracy at any distance. To shoot the sabot slugs you need the fully rifled barrel, and it comes with sights or cantilever mount. I think there's one for sale in the "parts & bits" forum. AS for the mod choke, it's pretty universal. I've used mine for ducks, geese, grouse and both trap & skeet, (although not ideal for the skeet).

I've also seen the turkey version with the grey laminate stock and the thumb hole, but I didn't like it.
