New 870 one piece tubes

I'm planning to buy a brand new 870 tactical.

And I was quite surprise to see that the new models of 6 + 1 were all equiped with a one piece shell tube that doesn't fit flush to the barrel as the older 4 + 1 with a + 2 extention did.
I don't know if I find it ''attractive'' or not and I'm also worried about the performance and RELIABILITY of such tubes.

I have shot many many times with a 870 but I never add one so this would my first.

Should I buy an older model?

I know remington have lowered their standards to keep the prices low.

Also is there gonna be problems to change barrels and stuff with one pieces tubes?

I have the one piece tube on one of my 870s and haven't had any issues with it. I love the idea of a solid one piece tube instead of the extension. Event though it still has the same capacity, I wish it was flush with the muzzle like the extension just because it looks better.

And obviously swapping out your barrel for a shorter one isn't going to work with the full-length tube.
 
I have one as well. Not a deal breaker for me, on a black gun I'm not changing my barrels. Makes for lighter weight, not needing a threaded collar, or extension clamp. If you really want a different barrel, I suspect a good smith can move the barrel ring.
 
It will work just fine, but You are limiting yourself badly.
Talking about any "tactical" pump under our regulations is just plain funny.
Stored properly, unloaded the shotgun is as much tactical as broomstick.

Barrel swaps are the only con of the new design. If you need that functionality, either buy a current short-tube 5+1 version and add the tube extension, or be prepared to have a smith move the mount ring on any other barrel you want to use. Probably not cheap.

The one-piece design does eliminate possible failure points of the magazine extension (they were never a problem with correct installation, though).

And if you're into "gaming guns", it looks like you can add a factory +2 or +3 extension to the tube for an inexpensive high-capacity solution (for 3-gun, for example). It would be unsupported and relatively delicate (and goofy looking), but anything that cuts your reloading time merits consideration for that particular game...

I hear you. Not ideal, but you can load a tube pretty quickly with training.
 
The funny thing is they've now gone the same way as Mossberg did with their 20" barreled tactical 500 they've had for years. Now you can't change the barrel easily.

It shouldn't be a problem, you just have to choose whether you want a black shotgun or a more standard one. Or you can buy a second shotgun. Personally, I think Remington did it right with the one piece tube, that's the way a no nonsense shotgun should be.
 
Moving the barrel ring only works if you want a longer barrel. If you want to go with a 14" barrel you have to cut the mag tube. If you are planning on staying with that barrel length, then there is nothing wrong with the long tube

I think the express tactical with the ghost rings and the ATACS one still have not swapped over to the one piece tube.

Yup. There's no way around having two receivers if you want the best of all possible worlds: one with the 4-rd tube to allow for all barrel swaps (12.5"-30"), and 6-rd tube for max capacity (11rds with the +3 extension if you ghost load).
 
The new Remington Tactical is the only shotty having the one piece tube.

All other 870 platforms are staying the same.

Use those to do builds.


Im waiting for the one piece tube to be released as a Marine model.

I prefer my one piece tube tactical model.
